This museum failed to really grab my attention despite having a lot of potential. They have some beautiful models and life size replicas including houses and a bridge which I really liked. And I did feel that I learnt a lot about the history of Edo-Tokyo. But most of the written material was dry and boring to read and the audio guide (free but requires a deposit refunded when you return the guide) is a dull and slow automated voice who mostly just recites what you can read from the signs. Overall I feel that Edo-Tokyo is a fascinating subject to learn about but the museum could have done a better job presenting it.

My family and I visited the museum for its grand reopening. The refurbishment was nice but the content of the museum could be better. There are loads of historical information contained in the recreation and depictions of Edo-Tokyo however, the amount of exhibits are basic and not anything that really excites the senses. However, the museum is still a wonderful place to learn all about Edo-Tokyo.

One of the largest museums in Tokyo that houses numerous artefacts of historical significance.
Located in Ryogoku and accessible by JR sobu local line or using Tokyo Metro oefo line.
Museum has many sections and descriptions are provided in English.
The ground floor has a museum shop with many souvenir options.

Museum is great to understand Edo period. You can experience Edo period life style and exercise with showed items.
Addirionally, volunteer translators can explain all the meanings of illustrations.
Must seen before leaving Tokyo
