Hell - Upon arrival we were given room 248, with seaview. The room was in the 80 year stile very run down. In addition in the evening we realised that the room just above the restaurant and isolation was not the best. In the evening we complained, but no alternative was available as the hotel was booked out due to high season. We heavy hearthed slept in the 80s room.

Heaven - The following day the receptionist gave us a new room 230, which is situated in the side building. Surprise, surprise, this room was calm, newly renovated. We arrived in the 2k :-) Beautiful room, lots of light, calm, a dream. We were told afterwards that the previous room was to be renovated in winter 2017.

The bottom line:
+ Very friendly and helpful service personnel at the reception
+breakfast with crêpe and galettes
+perfect location beautiful view and calm (if you get the right room)

Room Tip: Avoid if possible building above restaurant as it is loud and will be renovated in winter 2017/18

Perched up on a hill over looking sea - this standard hotel has a great location in that you great views of the sea, whilst in a short distance to the beautiful port of Sauzon. The hotel itself was very clean, all the facilities required, excellent pool and hot-tub (overlooking sea) and the restaurant had fantastic buffet dinner - it was not a luxury stay, but with friendly and helpful staff it was a very enjoyable stay and good value for money

Room Tip: Rooms away from pool and restaurant, facing south, were quieter -

The service throughout our stay was superb. The view from our room's terrace was beautiful and serene. I would definitely spend the extra and reserve a room with a terrace. Breakfast is included and good. It also comes with wonderful view. The hiking trail is very close and the port is a 5 minute walk. The pool and hot tub was perfect for after a hike. Once again, a beautiful view while you relax by the pool.

Belle Ile is a stunning destination, and Le Cardinal proved an inspired choice of hotel. First for the view: the hotel sits on a point above the port of Sauzon and is sited to look straight down the jagged coastline of tiny bays with black rocks sheering out of the water beneath emerald green bush. We saw this magnificent outlook in many guises from our bedroom, the restaurant and the hotel's public spaces. Second the hotel's food is lovely. Breakfast was the standard smorgasbord of cheese, meats and breads, but also offered striking enhancements: a dozen variety of eggs and crepes cooked to order (I enjoyed crepes with unsalted ham and a sharp cheese), beautiful fresh watermelon and orange juice, espresso coffee and bowls of fresh fruit salad. There is also a "famous seafood buffet" (32 Euro) which justified its reputation. A piquant prawn bisque segued into sweet local oysters, three types of prawns and other assorted shellfish including lovely bulots (sea snails) with firm chewy texture and nice taste. The hot main was a seafood brochette, followed by several cheeses and desserts including eclair and mousse. Plus wine included, of course. Location of the hotel is great, too, with its own bus stop from which to explore the island, and just a few minutes walk to Sauzon's lively waterfront cafés and bars. Finally the staff are friendly and helpful, with a local's pride in their home.
