Nice setting but poor food

Review of The Haven Hotel
3.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 3 Jul 2024via mobile
Just dropped in for a bite to eat with family.
Service was good.
Menu looked good.
Kids meal was nice.
I ordered fish of the day.
Unfortunately completely tasteless and bland and dripping in water/oil. The stir fry veg were so soggy and tasteless too. I actually had to drain off all the water. The veg was just a few peppers and one tiny tiny broccoli !
Very disappointing for €22. Chips nice.

Wife had the chowder. Pretty bland too.
Great setting but food should be so much better.
Date of stay: July 2024
Room Tip: Avoid fish of the day

Stayed for two nights on the the 30th of June and the 1st of July 2024 and had an excellent experience. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We ate both nights in the Hotel and the food was excellent and the service was outstanding. The views of the sea from the Hotel were breathtaking. We will return in the future.

Just returned from a wonderful stay at The Haven. The rooms were excellent and the food was delicious. The breakfast in particular was outstanding. We went as a family group and met up with family who live in Waterford so it was the perfect location for us all to get together. The grounds were delightful too and the view over the sea was wonderful.

Lovely little spot, hope to stay at some point, beautiful view overlooking the sea. Food was lovely, beautiful fresh fish. Staff very nice, friendly & helpful. As a wheelchair user accessibility was good, shame to see everyone using the accessible toilet. Bar was nice, chairs a little uncomfortable. Definitely worth a visit, look forward to going back, I believe the roast beef is one to try 😊

Went here tonight as we are vegan and they specifically advertised vegan options on their menu. We noticed the stir fry had noodles and just double checked that they were rice noodles. We were informed "no, they are egg". We said if, that's not vegan but the garlic bread says wheat in allergens, is that vegan, informed, "no, butter in it". Waitress said she would check and see if any alternatives, came back and said, NO!! We said, what about rice? Told it wasn't vegan!!! Absolute kip. Azzurro is the only show In town

Room tip: Don't go

Haven Hotel, Owner at The Haven Hotel, responded to this reviewResponded 12 June 2024

Hi Susan,

We are sorry that you did not enjoy your experience with us. The noodles we offer are vegan and unfortunately there was a miscommunication between the server and the kitchen. We do offer alternative vegan options, including salads & bean casseroles, and you should have been informed of this.
While we agree you should have been told of this, we find it extremely rude to call our premises a "kip" online, and your parting comment was that our premises is a "sh*th*le.". We do not think the Haven is the place for you.

Regards,
Paul.
