We stayed with our extended family while in El Salvador for a wedding in January of 2012. There were 15 of us and found plenty of room for all of us. The gorgeous dining room table had plenty of room for the whole crew. I especially loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves and having morning coffee on the deck overlooking the beach. We rented a couple vans with drivers to take us to the many amazing sites of ES. The caretaker and housekeeper were excellent and friendly.
My brother-in-law rented this amazing house for 11 of us, including 3 small children. The house is in a gated community, that has a clubhouse with several pools, and a restaurant/bar. The house is a split level with tons of space and amazing views of the ocean as well as a pool. We stayed for a week and were able to hire the housekeeper as a cook for the entire family for lunch and dinner for the week. She even showed us how to make papusas! The meals were both filling and delicious. Some of us went out for day excursions, but most of us spent the entire week just relaxing at the house or going to the clubhouse - a 2 minute drive through the neighborhood. The last night we sat up on the upper deck and watched and listened to a really cool thunder and lightening storm.

We stayed at Villa del Olas for a week at the end of July. There were eleven of us, ranging in age from 3 to 70. It was amazing! Seldom do places exceed my expectations, but this one did. The house is spacious and perfect for a large group since is a large room for a get-together but enough smaller places for privacy. My favorite two spots were the upstairs hammocks and the hammock chair next to the casita. We hired Blanca to cook for us every night (I would highly recommend this--it's nice not to have to cook or clean dishes when you're on vacation). We had chicken twice, steak once, pupusas twice, sea bass once...she is a fantastic cook. My mom even watched how she did the chicken to keep it so moist. The beach was rocky at that time of year, but we were able to go to Atami and use their pools and water slide when we needed more pool space (you can talk to the manager and open up a tab...very convenient when you are ordering drinks/cokes/ice creams throughout the day). We felt completely safe and since all but one of us are blond, we really stand out. The only thing that could be improved is the internet service but that's probably true of most places in the area (although we could always go to Atami and use theirs). This was a perfect combination of a private villa with access to a resort. Loved it!
