Description: Stile Bridge Freehouse Pub & Restaurant is an independent, family owned country pub serving a wide range of real ales, wonderful wines and a spectacular Gin List in addition to the usual spirits. With a fully commercial kitchen cooking food freshly prepared from local produce, a vegetarian-friendly mix of English cuisines from old favourites to something a little different awaits and all at very reasonable prices. There is a large patio garden with plenty of benches and seating for the summer and real fires indoors for the colder winter months. There is a separate restaurant inside the spacious interior of the pub but customers are welcome to eat in the bar and lounge areas should they choose to. A large free car park is available for all our visitors.

Service is good, range of beers remains excellent. We have been regular visitors as this restaurant is a short drive from our village and has always been our destination of choice for birthdays and celebrations.

But have they changed the chef? It's always been relatively expensive to eat here, but generally worth the extra money due to the high standard of the cooking. I don't know what's happened, but the food is nowhere near the standard of our previous visits and definitely not worth the premium any longer. We might have to wait for the premises to change hands (again) before returning.

I'd completely forgotten this place existed when my husband suggested it today. We were driving around Kent and popped in on the way home.

I'm a creature of habit so had the roast lamb again and it was even better than before despite the incredibly hot weather it really hit the spot.

A variety of vegetables all cooked to perfection, a large portion of me at, garlicky roast potatoes and a giant Yorkshire.

He had fish and chips with mushy peas, the best he's had in a long while.

Great service, friendly and quick and the atmosphere was lovely, a christening was happening in the back room so there was a nice buzz to the place.

Excellent, thank you!

10 friends came down to visit and we all had lunch in the garden on a Saturday afternoon. All were new to the Stilebridge and none were impressed. My other half was served mouldy salad, not just wilted, but turning to stodge.

On another visit, I actually witnessed the same chef threaten to ‘have a chat’ with a couple of customers who sent their food back (one because it was stone cold, the other because half the mussels on his plate were closed and therefore inedible and shouldn’t have left the kitchen).

The lady working on the bar managed to stop him, but his comments and behaviour were made behind the bar so all the other punters heard and saw.

In both instances, waiting staff behaved politely and professionally. The chef however, is a different story. Really just a drinkers pub at the moment.

We have dined at this local pub for many years now and have always been happy. We recently popped in for a meal and were very disappointed with the quality of the food we were served. We won't be going back any time soon.
