We stumbled across the town of Santa Severina while driving. We saw it in the distance and it literally sits atop a mountain top!! Absolutely gorgeous! We made our way up the winding, steep road and were so surprised at the top! The Castello di Santa Severina was amazing!! Beautiful views and structure. There's quite a little city there just waiting to explore!! Not a lot of English was spoken but that's half the fun. If I ever get the chance, I want to stay here for a few day. Beautiful!

Very nice medieval castle, at the top of the town, high on the mountain. Worth a visit, also some archeological things. Take your car up the hill, you find a big parking place just outside the entrance of the castle. The way to reach it offers great views of the region.

because there were many civilizations that conquered this are, it was worthwhile to read and study the castle. This is also one of the cleaner hillside towns in Calabria. Everyone was very helpful despite my abysmal Italian!

Wonderful village on the hillside. Photos from the road to the castle makes it look like some kind of Bond villan's lair. The castle was impressive and the museum was extensive. We enjoyed all the English translations of everything and could have spent longer there. Had the weather been better the views would have been even better but it was impressive.
Worth visiting and a really nice restaurant near the castle too selling good food and generous sized pizzas.

The castle is beautifully conserved and presented. The tour of the dungeon and tortures was interesting if ghoulish!! This was one of the best presented sites that we have visited in Italy.
