We took a 3-day hike with Active Escapes in the Wild Coast. Everything was organized very well with lot of details. They accommodated our schedule that wouldn't fit the regular 5-day hike of the Wild Coast.
The problem has been that on the hike, the guide was just a boy from one of the villages that wouldn't have been a problem if he were a guide. He was not a guide, so he just knew where to go, but he didn't know how to accompany hikers: he wouldn't know how long it takes from place A to place B, how far we were walking, where it's best to stop for a break, etc. Not a guide. Furthermore, Active Escapes should have organized our lunches with village based accommodation (VBA) places and maybe there was a misunderstanding, but our lunches were 2 half slices of bread. Definitely not enough when you hike for 8h a day; furthermore, we didn't carry any other food with us because lunches should have been included in our package.
The VBA has been one of the best parts of the hiking because they were very simple, clean and very welcoming. The hike was absolutely gorgeous, really amazing, and I will do it again.
Considering all of this, the price we paid for a 3-day hike in VBA with not a professional guide and almost no lunches was way too high. You can probably arrange all of this at a cheaper price by yourselves or with locals once you are in Coffee Bay or Port St Johns.
