The setting of this place is just beautiful and the spa was one of my favorites I have ever visited! We stayed in the Mary Portman house, the room was great. The design of the hotel is so nicely done. During the day we wore robes and at night people dress nice for dinner. The breakfast was a delight. I can't wait to come back to this awesome place!

The hotel, which is a combination of an old house with a very modern addition, was wonderful. Staff was helpful and attentive; spa facilities were lovely, the rooms were spacious and well-equipped; the food was excellent. The setting was spectacular.

We visited for 2 nights as part of a hiking holiday in the region. The hotel provided convenient access to trails and excellent relaxation facilities after a day on the trail. We didn't have time to take advantage of the spa services, but did enjoy the pools. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the food was excellent.

Das Kanzbach has created a powerful atmosphere of total relaxation, and it worked for us again this year. The spa again exceeded our expectations (though they should have asked if we wanted male masseuses) and dinner was exceptional again, and thankfully the wine list has improved.
If your are concerned about the body/fitness (and indeed fashion) fascism that characterises some culturally Anglo-American hotels, don't worry. You can be any age or size here, recovering from injury or super fit and still fit in and feel completely comfortable.

Room Tip: Ask about room location re: Badehaus because at ground level you can cross the lawn

My partner and I are just wrapping up a 5 night stay. We came primarily to do hiking/long walks in the region, not really for the spa itself (though we did try a massage), as odd as that might sound. Kranzbach is a great location to hike to Garmisch, Mittenwald, and take longer tours of the Bavarian sites.

The facility is very clean. Americans should be advised though that this is a very European-style spa. There are a lot of folks running around in bathrobes, and baths, pools, etc. And yes, there are designated smoking areas which strike some as unusual, but again this is Bavaria, not Boston. And we found the fact that there were no other americans here during our stay a big plus (we love our country but enjoy immersion in other cultures too).

The food was fine, if a bit heavy at times, (I'm vegetarian) and the choices ample. Excellent assortment of local wines. And while yes, people got a bit dressed for dinner, we did not find it overly fussy or "high heels" as one earlier reviewer opined. We dressed nicely enough but certainly not black tie or anything close.

Service a bit spotty at times. Some of the staff a bit curt, a few occasionally grumpy. But on balance very fine indeed. So no complaints.

Cocktails in the Game Room were a bonus. Enjoyed learning backgammon over Cosmos.
