We are a film crew who stayed at the Gateway Hotel recently and we got the most lovely warm welcome from the Manger Cathal Kelly and all his staff. They could not have been more accommodating and most of all they were lovely and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was also delicious.
We will definitely be back..

My husband and I have taken a few visiting family members into the Gateway bar & Restaurant over the last few months and have found the food and service to be excellent every time. We will definately continue to go as a couple and with family and friends.

Shower was very cold. To my horror I soon found out the hair dryer was also not working. We informed the hotel staff about this - on the night and the following morning when asked how our stay had been - nothing was offered. The bar was serving food, we sat down at a filthy table covered in salt and bits of sauces, the floor was not much better and two menus were placed on top of this - the specials read out loud and the waitress then disappeared - we left.

Room Tip: Noisy youths outside - woke up at 2am.

If you're in Swinford and on look out for delish veggie food then the Gateway Hotel is the place to dine. Had an amazing veggie dish there recently - fuscilli pasta with mushroom, spinach and spring onion in a white wine creamy sauce cooked to perfection and served with crisp garlic bread on the side. And so reasonable at less than €13 for a huge serving - so much so that I couldn't finish the dish.
Suitably stuffed and I recommend having a glass or two of their very nice chilled house white wine (very reasonably priced at €5.50 per glass). For pescetarians - try the smoked salmon and crab which can also be served as a main (rather than a starter). It looked delish!
Well done to the Gateway Hotel - it's rare to find hotel food for veggies so good....and the staff were extremely pleasant and friendly.

Room Tip: Didn't stay at the hotel so sorry can't offer any tips.

My wife and I stayed at the Gateway for two nights and couldn't have been happier with our experience. The rooms are well sized, very clean and quiet at night. The food is also top notch...our group missed the Friday night steak special (we were there on a Saturday), but decided to order steaks which were some of the best we've had in Ireland. We did the Sunday brunch as well, and the food was equally as good. The Gateway was packed, which we were surprised at because Swinford is a small town, but clearly this is the spot to be on Sundays! There is a brand new renovated bar downstairs ("The Front"), and from what we can tell the hotel gets regular live music acts. The guys that performed Saturday night and Sunday afternoon were really good, quality musicians. The owner, Cathal, was around the entire stay (and quick with a story or joke) and all of the staff were friendly, attentive and exuding small town charm. If you're visiting Mayo, Swinford is a perfect, authentically Irish escape from the more touristy towns in the area. We highly recommend staying at The Gateway!.
