Location: a gentle 20 min walk to the centre of Hanga Roa. Close to the airport. Free parking. It's not the handiest for the cafes and restaurants in town but it's not disastrously far either. The road is lit all the way back and most tour companies will pick you up and drop you off from your hotel (except our tour didn't because they didn't think they could turn at the end of the road!)

Hotel room: we stayed in a standard double. It was basic and clean enough - it was absolutely adequate. Please note that the room does not have a kettle (it is not advertised that it does but something to bear in mind - see below for overview). Fresh towels everyday and basic toiletries provided.

Breakfast: this is very basic but supplements are available at extra cost. We are not sure how this compares to other hotels on the island but in my (uk) opinion their offering doesn't constitute a breakfast, esp at the rate. They provide a glass of fruit juice, a hot drink and two bread buns with a pod each of butter and dulce de leche.

Recommendation: we booked about 4 months in advance with booking.com and reserved the room at £54per night. Other travellers have recommended booking at last minute to get better deals - we checked the prices of accom on arrival on the island and found that Atavai was then advertised at £38per night. If I were to go again, esp in low season, I would hold off.

Overview: we booked on a price basis and were looking at the lower end of the scale as we didn't intend on spending much time 'at home'. Whilst Atavai wasn't terrible, I wouldn't recommend it for a trip to Easter Island. I would book somewhere with kitchen facilities because there will be some days that you would want to make a packed lunch (for a tour) rather than paying 15,000 for one to be included. It is possible to make instant noodles to take with you in your own Tupperware but be aware that the hotel also charges for hot water - 2000 pesos per cup, which they do measure.

A nice one night stay in Easter Island. The room was well cleaned. The reception was nice. No A/C, but with a window open it is fine. Next to some very vocal roosters, so I suggest ear plugs!!! Hotel is located down the beaten path, but close to the city and main roads.

The hotel is in one of the quietest locations with easy walk to the high street and aeroport. In fact, this is the first time I have ever walked between the hotel and aeroport! The hotel has the tropical look with lot of plants and flowers along with simple furnishing. My room has king size bed and one of the largest bathrooms I have seen in South America. Of course, the electric points are fitted on both sides of bed.

The staff seemed to be little distant and not so focused on the guest service at the beginning. They were more than happy to phone for taxi service and give us the pointers about the island.

Despite more options in the menu, the hotel could offer only continental breakfast rather than buffet style. The continental breakfast is somewhat adequate with one piece of round flat bread, a cup of coffee, a glass of orange juice, butter, and jam.

WiFi signal is hit and miss in many bungalows and rooms. Some of guests sat at the table outside my room, which had the best WiFi signal, as to connect to the Internet.

Hello, We'd like to thank you for your very kind review. We are pleased to know that you enjoyed your stay at our hotel and we look forward to welcome you again soon. About breakfast, products are expensive on our island, so you have what you pay. Travelling around the world, you will find other prices, but not on Rapa Nui. Sorry about your slow free wifi internet. I'm agree with you that is a poor service of our unique company, not like a big city, but it's possible to connect for emails. Kind regards, hôtel Atavai, Rapa Nui.

Easter Island is pretty expensive, making it difficult to find something for a budget that's not one of those camping sites. This was a great find. The room/bathroom was clean and comfortable and they even provided some basic amenities. It is a little outside of main town (~25 minute walk) but it's really easy to get the front desk to call a cab (the ride only costs a few dollars). The hotel also offers free pickup/dropoff from the airport which was great.

My mother in law booked 2 rooms -one for her and one for us .
After she booked, she didn't see the confirmation form ,so she thought that there was an error and rebooked.
When she understood her mistake , she immediatly adressed the owner Antoine and asked him to cancel the double reservation.
But Antoine refused and charged us twice!!!
Tough Antoine had few months to find other tourists and rent the room,
He prefered to make "easy money" and to take ours.
We complained about the hotel and its owner at the tourist informatin , where they told us that there have been www2 complainments about the hotel.
Be awere of this man. Do not book Atavai
