We drove from Granada to Apoyo taking in local culture of a pilgrimage with straw wagons, quite delightful. From Katerina which overlooks the lake giving a string cool breeze which is welcome after 38deg heat! We took little roads and stove through the national park down to the lake. There are beach clubs, hostels (great quality hostels!), and hotels. Unfortunately we didn't book so we just took in the views and one if the hostels allowed us to park and have a drink overlooking the lake. This would be a great place to rest, Take in the peace and top up the tan, quite lovely.

There are no motorized vehicles allowed on the lake which help keeps both the water and noise pollution to a minimum. There are several beach clubs on the laguna which have kayaks and paddle boards to explore with. I would recommend going early as it gets a little crowded in the early afternoon. Great to be able to cool down in the water on a hot day!

Went for lunch and a quick swim!! Not the easiest to find, but worth it once you get there.
Fantastic views!!

The laguna is clean, warm for swimming and has an almost constant cooling breeze. We have stayed at the San Simian Eco Resort several times and have used it as a base to enjoy the laguna, take bird walks and day trip to the nearby villages and Granada.

The lake is gorgeous, clear, clean, perfectly temperate, calm, and free of dangerous animals. I think the experience here depends on how you do it. We were staying at San Simian (5*), so for us, the lake experience was as perfect as the lodging.

Come and enjoy for a couple of nights; a day trip might leave you wanting a little more.
