All the staff on arrival were friendly, helpful and spoke excellent English. Our Jet2 rep was also extremely helpful. It was unfortunate to be hit with a tourist tax on arrival (although not the fault of the hotel) but would have preferred to pay this in advance.
We had a room on level 3-unfortunately the lift did not have an entrance on this level and required us to take the suitcases up to level2 in the lift and heave the suitcases up a single flight of stairs to our floor-not a major problem, just something to bare in mind.
The location of the hotel was superb- although not on the seafront it was only a 2 min walk to the nearest supermarket, with the Pine Walk, beach, shops and restaurants only another couple of minutes away. Lots of choice for coffees, drinks and ice cream which suited us perfectly.
The hotel itself was spotlessly clean and towels were changed daily- the cleanliness of the pool area and communal areas could also not be faulted.
The choice of food at breakfast and dinner was super. I imagine even the fussiest of eaters could get sorted each evening. One little nuisance was that drinks needed to be paid for each night at the table and weren’t able to be put on a tab. The pool bar had good choice for lunch and we ate in it most days. The portions of chips are massive so split between two to avoid waste!!
The pool area had loungers available everyday and although busy, is a large area so doesn’t feel too cramped - beware you’re likely to be splashed by kids jumping in!
Aqua Zumba was run daily and was a firm favourite with me and my friends providing a laugh and also some free exercise! Rafa and the entertainment team were friendly and kids seemed to love them! The range of activities was great to entertain kids and adults alike!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone - especially families and groups of friends. I certainly plan to return to Puerto Azul!

Nice hotel but very disappointed that for a 4 star hotel you get charged per day for pool towels / safe deposit and kettle without any coffee or tea sachets!
Gym and entertainment are good. The towel issue mentioned below is unfortunately true!
Dinner buffet is nice with lots of different variety (great paella). You get charged for every drink even water as they stop the water / juice / coffee and tea machines which are available at breakfast. Considering the hotel is full of families with young children it would be much nicer if they kept the machines running and charged for everything else. They would still make money and improve guest experience!

Stayed as a family of 4 ( 2 boys aged 10 and 12) at the start of the school holidays. About an hour transfer from the airport. Warm welcome. There is a lift that you can use to access the different floors. Modern décor for the rooms which were spotlessly clean. Daily maid service meant clean towels and beds made each day.
There is just a fridge in the room and 4 glasses. No kettle or cups. Not really a problem however the glasses aren't changed so we had to wash them in the bathroom and leave to dry.
Plenty of small supermarkets just down the road. Small bottles of water are very expensive so we bought a few at the start of week and then topped them up from a large bottle each day ( approx. 1 Euro).
Nice pool with plenty of sunloungers, although as the week went on and the hotel started to fill up with larger groups we noticed that by 8am there were towels on most sunloungers. Very annoying as there is a sign up saying that it's not allowed.
Breakfast - good range of foods, but can be quite busy in the restaurant between and 9 and 10am
Dinner - nice salads and range of hot foods. Small childrens section with pasta and chips always available.
Staff are very hard working and polite.
Evening entertainment was varied and the entertainment staff work hard all day. Always an activity going on that you can join in with - Waterpolo, darts, football etc.
The location of the hotel is perfect. Straight on to the sea front. Turn left for the beautiful Pine Walks, turn right for the bars and restaurants. Loads of choice of places to have lunch or coffees, or evening meals for a change. No hard selling needed as all restaurants were busy. Not so many places just to have an evening drink though.
Wednesday market was great. Plenty of souvenirs, fresh fruit and veg etc. Day trip to Puerto Old Town. Hotel arranged a taxi for us to go ( 12 Euros). Got the bus back which cost 6 Euros for the 4 of us. Taxi dropped us at the taxi stand which is right next to the Bus stand.
In summary it's a great hotel in a really good location.

Stayed with our 6 year old granddaughter 20July for a week 20July. Has all been said already. Good food but too much choice very little for kids though. Great selection of deserts and had no problems getting seated or served drinks. Room was fine although had view of car park. Well cleaned by maid who gave me a 20 minutes discussion in Spanish about we had too many room towels . The Pool oh dearie dearie me. We are getting as bad as our European neighbours when it comes to blocking pool beds with towels. First time we have ever joined the race but if you can’t beat them -join them. The pool was great as were pool games for kids. Near the end of week it was very busy. We were constantly soaked by splashers jumpers water pistols and you need to laugh it off after all it’s a family holiday full of kids and it’s beside the pool . Had a handbag moment with a bald ignorant English guy who was hit by my granddaughters water ring through it away and swore at her. What a waster. Well done to the guys who put a great effort into the kids clubs . You were brilliant. The pool games and the kids shows were brilliant. All in all a good hotel good food great staff - from cleaners to waiting staff.

The two reviews below sum up our experience especially the food - so excellent but:

Towel policy at the pool isn't enforced so if you are someone who doesn't like breaking a rule you are left without a place at the pool.

Air-con could be better

Perhaps not ideal for couples who want quiet by the pool as you are at risk from inflatable flamingoes and unicorns constantly.

On the plus side - only a few minutes walk to the bus station and some cheap bars near the bus station. A couple of mins to the beach. Double/triple check bus times - don't trust Google map times or the company timetable.

Room tip: Bad legs -avoid third floor or even the second as you may still need to get up half a flight of stairs to get to a lift.
