Alabriga has a timeless beauty which my family have been privileged to experience 2 times and each time, unique memories are created. We can only say that if anyone is lucky to visit, they will feel true hospitality and the Butler Service is the link to making things happen.

Stayed at the Alabriga Hotel & HomeSuites to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary - i can only use one word to describe our experience and that is incredible. Having been lucky enough to stay at many TOP hotels in the world and my expectations were already pretty high but I must say we were blown away by the levels of hospitality we received. Would definitely recommend and will most definitely return. Alabriga is the most luxury hotel in Costa Brave for good reason, outstanding building, outstanding amenities and outstanding butler service - loved it!

Even Wikipedia regards S’Agaro as an ‘upmarket’ resort on the Costa Brava. It is. Our family was intrigued by this relatively new establishment on the southern edge of Sant Pol beach. Supremely modern, well situated high on the cliff towards Saint Feliu, it provides a modern counterpoint to its elegant competitor - La Gavina - across the bay.

There is valet parking. The first impression was the Bahamas comes to the Costa Brava. Swanky decor and prompt service that is more typical of a Caribbean resort catering for an American audience. And so to dine...

We are English and our English/Russian menu had good wide range of options. When one of the party asked for fish our waiter - hesitant, lacking in grace or presence - explained certain items were off the menu. But he keenly pointed us in the direction of the fish they had ready to serve.

Our vegan diner expressly asked for a dish without cheese. The waiter said that would be fine. Then returned to say cheese was in the sauce. To be fair he arranged to have it withdrawn (but then why return?). We asked for wine but once it arrived we were told it was the last bottle they had but there was an equivalent if we wanted a second (although on later enquiry we learned this was rather more expensive).

The food was acceptable. The squid rings were no better than at the far cheaper mid-market Barcarola along the sea front. Anchovies had to hunted down amidst a jungle of lettuce. The fish and steaks were ok. But at €60+ per head for a starter and main, they hardly thrilled the palate. The serving staff seemed uncertain throughout. Maybe they knew they were charging 5 star prices for what was at best a 3 star offering.

There is wonderful cuisine in this area. La Gavina is the Savoy of S’Agaro. Sa Marinada is charming. The superb young team at Can Roquet deserve all the many plaudits they regularly get. These places cohere, they understand what they are doing. Sadly this place does not. Proof, were it ever needed, that style rarely triumphs over substance.

If you're considering this property for your wedding or any type of event, I highly recommend that you look elsewhere. I was venue shopping for my wedding and stumbled upon the Alabriga, and became absolutely enamored with the hotel. One of the managers gave us a tour and told me everything I wanted to hear in terms of having my wedding there. By the time I left, I was completely set on having our wedding at the hotel.

From that point on we have been tremendously disappointed with the service we've received. They have been disorganized and have lied to us throughout the whole process. For example, when speaking to the events coordinator I flat out asked her if they had ever had a wedding at the hotel (since it is only a year old), she told me yes. When I later went to get a drink at the bar, I casually asked the bartender to talk to me about their last wedding, he told me they had never had a wedding at the hotel.

Still, I was optimistic and so in love with the venue, so I asked if they could provide us with a wedding package. The sent us a very basic/ambiguous email with some general bullet points. Naturally, I asked for a more detailed explanation and they did not provide any kind of response until a few weeks later, simply providing the pricing for hair and makeup. As a potential client, I felt like I was the one that constantly had to follow up. After emailing and calling the hotel several times with no response or call backs, I came to discover that they had let go of my point of contact and now I had to work with someone else. This second person lasted less than a month at the hotel, rarely followed-up with us, and was full of empty promises.

After three months of back and forth, in which we had to wait 2-3 weeks at a time to even receive a courtesy email or a reply, we had yet to obtain a basic wedding proposal from the hotel. Finally, the General Manager, sent us an email saying she would take care of us. For the last time we got our hopes up and sent her a very detailed email describing how we imagined our wedding day to look like. It has been three weeks and we have yet to receive a response from her after she assured us that she would do everything in her power to make us happy.

Honestly, as a business professional, as a potential client, and as a former guest of the hotel I am beyond disappointed, disillusioned, and frankly disgusted with the total lack of professionalism and respect from Alabriga Hotel--even more so, since it is a 5-Star hotel that promotes its high quality service. I have been working with multiple potential wedding venues and all of been nothing but courteous, respectful, kind, and detail oriented. This experience has been everything but.

It's such a shame because while I agree that the hotel is awesome and the staff treated us like royalty when we were guests, they have enormous management and organization gaps that need to be addressed. At this point I would never recommend this hotel. I went from a raving fan to its most avid detractor.

We stayed (couple) for 1 night in Alabriga, on our way from south of Spain to Poland. It was an amazing experience, albeit short. Our corner suite was very spacious and super luxuriously furnished. It offered great sea views and nice terraces around the suite. The bedroom was very well furnished, with amazing super comfortable beds. By the way - you can buy those beds as well :-). The mini bar offered great choice of high quality alcohols, reasonably priced, including premium Champagne. The restaurant offered 'design' and creative dishes, low in calories and delicious. In the morning we experienced spa treatments - very relaxing & professional. The Spa is not large but the treatment rooms offer state of art. beds. The 'icing on the cake' was our breakfast. The best eggs benedict we ever had in Europe! All the breads are home made. Pancakes were delicious. We would like to come back in the Summer when the beach club is in full swing:-) Thank You Alabriga Team for your cordial hospitality!

Room tip: All the suites seem calm, the higher the floor the better the view.
