“Big and spaceous but needed cleaning”

We joined some of the family that had booked this as there was lots of space and not enough people. We went via Eurostar, note that it is a long drive 5-6hrs from the terminal and about 25euros fpr tolls each way. We had read the reviews so were expecting it to be really nice as it was all 5 stars. There is the main house and an annexe type. We didn't use the annexe really as there wasn't enough of us and stayed in the main area. The owners live next door, who are friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately when we arrived there was a musty, stale smell throughout the house and there were spiders and inscets everywhere. We had to leave the doors and windows open a lot but still never managed to get rid of the musty smell throughout the stay (it may purely have been due to its age). We had to spend a good couple of hours cleaning on arrival - non of us were fans of insects. Generally the previous occupants have to clean it prior to leaving, it may have been that it wasn't cleaned properly by them or there was too much time elapsed from the previous rental. There was still spiders mainly throughout the stay and we got a number of sprays to try and help. There was 2 bedrooms with en-suite and 2 bedrooms and 2 shower rooms (and addional toilet) in the main house. Non of the toilets had toilet paper so that was the first thing we had to go to buy. It was generally dated throughout apart from the newer area accessed from the kitchen area which was much more moderrn, cleaner and had less insects. There was a large area outside to play and sit as well as a small pool and seating area. We could never get the pool warm enough but the kids didn't mind too much. The kitchen area was large enough to seat us all and a dishwasher. There was a seperate laundry area which was handy but you had to get the knack of how to use some of the appliances. Whilst we were here we visited the local park, Mont St Michel Abbey, the beach at St Marlow, Mortain waterfalls, the Aqua centre which is much better than the local swimming pool for roughly the same addmission price. There was enough to do locally so the location was good, but we would have preferred somewhere more up-dated.

Management Response
10 Sep 2015
I'm sorry that everything wasn't quite up to scratch for you. As you say, with such a huge old property and only a few short hours turnaround every Saturday, we are very reliant on guests' courtesy to others in cleaning before they leave, which some sadly simply do not do. Your feedback, amongst others, has led to us adopting a cleaning charge for the future to allow us to hire the extra staff to complete a thorough clean on changeover day.

Yet another great family holiday spent at La plissonnais, the pool, the bbq, the grounds are all great.the proprietor cooked a super meal for us on our last night.La plissonnais is a perfect place from which to explore Normandy and North Brittany.,and the weekly market at St hilaire is not to be missed. All in all this is a great place for a family holiday, large or small.

Perfect for a large group. Surrounding area stunning but mostly we were happy hanging out at the house. Great for children and adults alike.

“Top notch experience”
Reviewed 1 October 2014 for a stay in July 2014

Had a wonderful time at La Plissonnais, beautiful room, comfortable sitting room and kitchen, and wonderful, peaceful, pastoral grounds. We opted for the proprietor, who is also a great chef, to prepare our meals which were decadent and delicious. Possibly the best coffee ice cream I have had, not to mention over the top foie gras covered Hemingway burgers.

It is a great base from which to explore the Normandy coast and get a taste of French village life. Overall, a wonderful holiday which I would recommend to family and friends.

Went with. 8 adults 4 kids aged 16 to 8 and my dog. Fantastic location both for a relaxing peaceful break but also close to all the sights....Normandy Beaches . Mont St Michelle. Waterfalls. And the local excellent market . Great Park nearby with free activities. The property has a great pool for all the family and massive grounds for plenty of games. Big enough for football and family cricket match. The dog loved the location off his lead all the time .The owners are fantastic hosts all ways there to help advise and chat with.
going back next near.
