“Charming French House with Fantastic Garden”
Reviewed 21 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

My husband and I, and another couple stayed at La Roseraie for 5 days during Hemelvaart in the small but quaint village of Les Loges Marchis. La Roseraie is accurately portrayed in the photos on the Trip Advisor website and was a luxury for 2 couples to have the run of the house, 1 wing of the house each for sleeping - each with our own bathroom and the spacious living area on the ground floor.

There is a very nice country kitchen with a fabulous gas and electric oven and gas hob. There is also and large old fireplace adding to the ambiance. The kitchen became the hub of the house for us. There is a large selection of cooking utensils, pots, pans, plates, cups, wine glasses and serving dishes. The house has 3 dining spaces, a formal dining room, the dining room in the kitchen and outside. We used the kitchen and outside.

The garden is stunning, and for our stay the garden was changing everyday with different flowers blooming during our stay. To the side of the house there is a little herb garden. Fresh basil for bruschetta, mint, rosemary, chives etc. The dining area outside is also good space to open a bottle of wine, relax and enjoy the garden area.

The location is in a handy , to all the tourist areas, with an average travel time between 45 mins - 1 1/2 hours by car. The local villages are also very nice to visit in the area. St Hilaire is only 4 km away and has great butchers, bakeries, patisseries, delis and several supermarkets. We missed market day in St Hilaire but did catch the Saturday market in Avranches. Great selection of fresh product - a mouth watering experience. From the house, doing a cycle tour is great to do (but hilly) there are also some nice walking routes - it is a beautiful area.

In the village where the house is there is a Bar/Tabak (Le Penalty), where you can get fresh bread every morning including croissant and pain au chocolat. TIP: Place your order the day before so that you do not miss out. Every morning this tiny shop is full with locals, picking up their bread, having a coffee and a chat (you will be instantly recognised as a visitor to the village!)

We loved our stay at La Roseraie and I hope we get the chance to go back again!

“Great garden and roomy house”
Reviewed 19 September 2014 for a stay in August 2014

Loads of space inside and out for energetic children to enjoy. We enjoyed our trips to Mont St Michel (despite the crowds), summer sledging and velo-railing and for a family day out Fougeres is great. The house is well equipped and obviously well used and therefore in places is in need of some TLC.
