I love this area of Maniwa - I live not too far away so I visit pretty often. The preserved streets have gotten rid of all the power lines so it's not clogged up like most modern streets and gives it that old, traditional feel. The Noren curtains are made by a local artist with a shop down the street, who told me she makes the Noren for each shop/house specially for what it does now/used to do/sell. The shops are also cute and kitschy, the sake brewery has recently been redone and the food is pretty delicious at their cafe. Capibara Coffee is also a must every time I go aha. Plus it's not too far from Kanba Falls, only a short drive, and totally worth it.
