The Iga Ryu Ninja museum is located in Mie Prefecture. The place is fun and quite educational. I learned quite a lot of things about the life of ninja.

Located at the Mie Prefecture, Iga City is known to the birthplace of ninja. Really appreciate the ninja show probably because of my deep affection with Naruto and with ninjas in general. When I visited, there are two different kinds of shows available for tourists, each costs a ¥500. The first show is about the basic principles/stealth operations of ninjas while the second one was a live-action dram-edy skit. There's also a shop when you can buy ninja stuffs, infos about the history of ninjas, and well, anything and everything about ninjas for the matter.

The place is very far to travel to from Osaka (roughly 2.5hours) but nice to visit. The museum is a small and simple one but allows you to understand more about ninjas. Do not miss the ninja show! Though in Japanese, still very entertaining for non-Japanese audiences. There is only a noodle shop in there so you may want to fill up your stomach before heading there if you would like something else.

As the previous reviewer noted, this place is really for kids. Luckily, we had our 9 & 10 year olds with us! They enjoyed the museum and the little show afterwards.

You really don't need to understand Japanese to see the show, it's mostly slapstick action anyway. Any details about the weapons etc. you should have picked up in the museum in any case.

I thought it was a bit cheeky asking to pay for the museum AND the show, for a total of around 4000 Yen for a family of four.

Anyway, the best part for me was the train journey there and back from Kyoto. We had to take four trains there, and four trains back, although the return was not the same route as the outward journey. The Iga-uneo station is on a tiny single track line, served by quaint single-carriage train-buses, which was a new experience for us. The return journey to Kisu station was through bamboo-forested hills and along a fast-flowing river, which was very beautiful. Best of all, there was not a single tourist to be seen on the train. This was the real Japan that I was hoping to see.

This journey was covered by the JR pass, and you can just walk the 2 km or so from the station to the museum - you can't miss it on the hill next to the castle.

Nice place but it's mostly for kids. The museum is tiny doesn't show much and presentation is in Japanese. If you don't have kids that understand Japanese better find a nother place to visit.
