We are so happy we chose to stay at Los Cocos during our honeymoon in Zancudo. We specifically chose this location and accomodation based on its peaceful, private atmosphere. The hospitatality and overall knowledge and graciousness of the owners, Susan and Andrew, made our three-week vacation wonderful. After viewing some of the other accomodations in Zancudo, we are happy we chose to stay at Los Cocos, where we received excellent, personalized care.

In all areas, we believe Los Cocos exceeds any other lodging option in Zancudo. Their well-kept, clean cabinas provide the perfect space in which to relax and unwind in relative seclusion. On top of the cleanliness of our lodging, the grounds at Los Cocos are beautifully appointed and reflect the time, energy and love Susan and Andrew put into their property. We felt our hosts invested the extra attention and care we needed to get the most out of our experience in Costa Rica. They were always available to answer questions and were consistently accomodating toward our needs and even offered further suggestions to maximize our time. Andrew gives incredible boat tours, so don't miss the opportunity to go out with him on the water!

When we chose to leave the haven of our spacious front porch, we were within short walking distance of two restaurants - Sol y Mar and La Puerta Negra, both of which we would highly recommend. La Puerta Negra is an excellent Italian restaurant, and your chef Alberto will always make your meal unforgettable. We took advantage of two Los Cocos tours, visiting the Osa Peninsula and a wildlife sanctuary on the Golfo Dulce. The sanctuary was spectacular, and we would wholeheartedly recommend it to other travelers.

One thing to know about Zancudo is that it is quite remote. The benefit to staying with Susan and Andrew at Los Cocos is that they know the area well, have lived there thirty years and understand how to make guests feel happy and at home. If you want a virtually private beach with stunning flora and fauna as well as inobtrusive and invaluable hosts, stay at Los Cocos.

We just returned from 6 nights at Cabinas Los Cocos. We felt like we were in our own private house on the beach. Each one of the cabins is secluded by distance and plants from the others. We could see and hear the surf from the front porch.

Go to Playa Zancudo if you want to avoid the tourist path and have an authentic experience. We were able to cook our own meals as a result we were able to shop at the local grocery store and buy our food (and rum) from the local produce truck. Bikes were available for riding around town, which is helpful since restaurants are spread-out. Los Cocos does provide the advantage of being centrally located.

Avoid Playa Zancudo if you are looking for a resort experience on more of the beaten path.

While staying at the cabins, we took out the sea kayaks that are available to guests. We put them in the estuary, which is located literally across the street, and made a loop that finished in front of the property in the Golfo Dulce.

Andrew and Susan were helpful. My husband got sick before we arrived and they helped us greatly.

We loved the palm-lined beach--we felt like we were in the South Pacific. They also provided boogie boards for us to use as well.

In everyone in Playa Zancudo is friendly and other establishments seem nice as well, and you couldn't go wrong, but here is what separates Los Cocos from the others:
They are more secluded.
The grounds are beautifully landscaped.
They are quiet.
They offer bikes, boogie boards, and lots of helpful advice.

We have stayed with Andrew and Susan twice, and love the cabinas and area. If you want touristy crap, don't come here. If you want the South Pacific, few on the beach, coconuts and gardens this is your place. The cabins are clean, wide front porch, kitchen. Ride complimentary bikes up to the store for some fresh fruit or several area restaurants. Boogie board or surf or just catch up on some reading. We love it!

We had a great time at Cabinas Los Cocos. The cabinas are very close to the beach, you can see and hear the beach from the front deck. The cabinas are rustic - don't expect luxury accommodations. The one we stayed in had a bedroom, small kitchen, a bathroom and a front porch. They were very clean, but there are the typical jungle insects around. The grounds are really nice and the owners are very friendly and helpful. Playa Zancudo is very laid back. There is not much in the way of nightlife. But there are a few really good restaurants within walking distance (or you can borrow bikes from the owners). We bought groceries at the small local store (mostly fresh fruit) and made our own breakfast and smoothies. When we were not on the beach, we were in the hammock on the front deck. We found the whole experience to be very relaxing. I would definitely go back to Los Cocos!

The one complaint I have is that the beach at Playa Zancudo, while quite beautiful, had a lot of trash. We were told that some of it washes up with the surf and some of it was left by the locals during the Christmas holidays. It would be nice if the local community sponsored some beach cleanup days!

We do have community clean ups a few times a year, and we clean our own beach area at least once a month. We have 9 ft. tides that can bring in some plastic everyday, so its tough. Usually after the high tides of the month, we clean down to the tide line. But yes, there is plastic, I can only say that at least its inert, and not tar or something toxic !!

My boyfriend and I just returned from a one week stay at Los Cocos in Zancudo and fell in love with the area. We were only supposed to be staying there for 2 nights but loved it so much we extended out stay in costa rica just so we could stay there for a week.It is an ideal spot for laid back adventurous travellers who don't like staying in 'plastic' resort type places. Susan and Andrew (the owners) were very hospitable and made sure that we were having a great vacation. We tried surfing, body boarding on the beautiful beach that at most only ever had 5 or so ppl walking up and down it. We ate delicious meals at Sol y Mar, the local italian restaurant Puerto Negro (comes with very entertaining host and blues artist Alberto) and our very favorite meal of all at the Oceano just down the street (run by incredibly nice Canadian couple Stephanie and Mark). The cabina was simple with a double bed, bathroom and kitchen that inculded a fridge, gas stove and sink. We ate some meals in to save money and made some great fresh fruit smoothies! Zancudo is very isolated but beautiful and peace full. The foreigners that live there are extremely welcoming and definately some of the most interesting characters i have met. One night we even had a bonfire with our fellow Los Cocos neighbours right out on the beach. If you do have the chance to check out this area, do try to get on the tour of the Wildlife Reserve. I learned so much on that excursion and loved the one on one interaction with all the monkeys and animals.
