The hotel was great. Really generously sized rooms, lovely little plunge pool, a couple of friendly dogs, close to the town and beach. Free coffee.

However, we let the hotel know when we booked that we were gluten-free and vegan so that they could make the necessary changes to the breakfast (which was included). On arrival, we reminded the hostess of our dietary needs and it was clear that she hadn't remembered or done anything. They serve a breakfast of yogurt, bread, cereal etc (all the things we can't eat) and so she just said that we could eat the fruit. We noticed that the supermarket at the end of their driveway sold dairy-free milk and gluten-free crackers etc and so the next day we were disappointed that the hosts had not made any effort to accommodate our diet so all we could eat was the fruit. A shame.

Quinta Esencia is a B&B, although staying there feels more like staying at the hosts' house. The place is very clean and cosy (only four rooms), with cool decor. We enjoyed the breakfasts served on the terrace, with lots of fresh fruit and orange juice. The hosts - Stephanie and Jerome - are very helpful, giving lots of useful tips and advice and always willing to help to arrange things. Fully recommend!

We stayed for 3 nights over xmas. We had an amazing stay. The room was great. Breakfast was beautiful every morning and the walk to the beach was very short.

We had a battery problem and the hosts were so helpful in finding someone local to help

A real gem. Would love to stay again.

La Quinta Esencia is a sweet little Bed and Breakfast in Brasilito. We stayed there for just one night, but really enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere and also all the decorations which are all made by the owner herself. The room was nice, there is nothing to complain. In the morning we were offered a rather small breakfast which wasn't that special but still okay. The beach brasilito isn't nice to stay and swim. But you should still walk along the beach to get to the wonderful Playa Conchal, where we watched the sunset and spent the next morning before heading towards Nosara. It was one if the nicest beaches that we visited on our trip through costa rica.

Stayed for 6 nights after excellent 2 week tour of country. Deserves to be very tranquil but isn't quite. Other reviewers mention the (many) early cockerels. More disturbing are the barking dogs that can be heard from various parts of the town throughout the night. One night, a group of them were barking just outside the hotel and gunshots were fired to disperse them. Jerome thought 5 gunshots were fired. Pura vida seemed a long way away at this point!
There is also a small metal working company next door which normally starts working at 7am just as you're starting breakfast. The hotel is on the main road through the town and this does get very noisy, very early. If the hotel could be moved 100 metres north of one of the recommended restaurants, Cafe de Manglar, it would be perfect! Stephanie and Jerome are very attentive hosts though we did have to ask for our sheets to be changed after 5 nights. Most other visitor seemed to stay for 1, maybe 2 nights while we were there. This probably influences reviews. You see and hear more after 6 nights. The Oyster.com review seems fair. As other reviewers have said there is a no smoking policy but guests still smoked in the car park area just below our room! A large brand new modern supermarket has just been built next door. It is a useful shopping option but does little to fit in with the atmosphere the hotel is trying to create.
We would have given 4 stars but do not like to hear gunfire so near to where we were sleeping!
Jerome's dining recommendations were all very good. The Cafe Manglar mentioned above was our favourite though probably best for lunch. The italian restaurant Sodita was excellent but fills with large groups of americans from the many Condo encampments nearby and is therefore noisy.
Our favourite beach was at the far end (away from Conchal) of Brasilito beach. However, from mid morning this becomes invaded by tourist groups (10-12 people at a time) on quad bikes. They seem intent on marking every square metre of sand with tyre marks and the group guide delights in going onto 2 wheels to further churn up the sand. You then walk to the sea over tyre marks with the smell of petrol prevailing. Not quite matching the eco credentials we found evident in the rest of the country. This quad bike activity needs to be better managed. Conchal and Flamingo beaches do not allow quad bikes on the beach. Conchal is pretty but you are pestered by beach hawkers. I counted 8 massage tables within sight of our spot on the beach. Probably best to settle for Flamingo. A little comercial but probably the prettiest. Excellent for sunsets.
As may be obvious, we seem to have a low tolerance of noise. Probably age! We did enjoy ourselves!

Room Tip: I suspect all 4 rooms are cosy and welcoming

Dear Keith,
Thank you for your review, it's always important and constructive for us.
We are so sorry that you has been disturbed by some noise. Sometimes yes you can hear some dogs barking and this night was the first night we heard dogs fighting and also gun shots! How can we manage it? Moving our hotel 100mts more by the north?? It's a joke I guess... sure that the dogs there will be more quiet!
We noticed that your previous reviews were not very positive too.
Maybe yes we didn't change your sheet before your 5th night, sorry about that but you should put them on the floor and we change it with pleasure.
Well as there's nothing really good in this area, we hope that you will have a quiet and peaceful life in Liverpool.
Hopefully we have visitors who are staying more than a week here and enjoyed their stay.
Maybe you could mention that we tried to do our best to make your stay comfortable, offering you a present and driving you to your shuttle service for exemple... you seem to be focus on bad things, forgetting what can balance with your bad mood...
Take care and Pura Vida
