Stayed at the Castle Inn over the Xmas period from the 24th to the 27th. My wife and I thought we would make a change to tradition as we usually have a house full for Christmas
dinner. We just felt we needed a quiet Xmas. After looking on the internet at places to stay over Xmas we decided on the Castle Inn. What a great choice it turned out to be, from the day we arrived to the day we departed we loved every minute. The staff were brilliant the food was excellent and the facility's were superb. If you want a nice quiet
getaway for Xmas with everything you need this is a real gem. Thanks to all the staff for making our stay so enjoyable, especially to the chef for some superb food. For anyone wanting a quiet leisurely christmas break with the highest standard of service this is the place to be.

Room Tip: Room 66 is right by the pool and gym which is very convenient

We were transferred here from the BW hotel in Glenridding which had been flooded. The head office rang after the storms and offered to transfer our 3 day booking to either Bassenthwaite or Kendal. We choose Bassenthwaite - big mistake. I had organised for a fridge for our room in advance as we had some items that needed to be kept cool. When we arrived the Receptionist was very offhand saying that the fact we had booked the 3 days in 2 separate bookings had caused a lot of problems. I said the booking had been done by the BW head office. I asked about the fridge and was told that it had been put in another room but would be moved immediately. In spite of 2 other requests we never got the fridge. The standard response to any request was a blank stare and shrug of the shoulders. The hairdryer didn't work but because it was nailed to the dressing table couldn't be changed. Other problems included the fact that all soups have meat in them so no good for veggies. We were going out walking each day and I wanted porridge but there was no mention of it on the breakfast menu so I assumed that it wasn't offered. However I discovered on the last morning that if you ask they will make it for you. When I asked why it wasn't on the menu - blank stare and shrug of shoulders! There are no drying facilities for walkers to hang their boots, jackets, etc - amazing in the wettest place in England. On the plus side the leisure facilities are excellent with a good sized swimming pool. We were supposed to have bath robes to go down to the pool but these never arrived either. After a while you lose the will to live asking and complaining and just make the best of what there is which is probably what the staff want as it saves them any hassle. Hopefully we can get to Glenridding next year as we won't be back here again.

We have been to the Castle Inn several times before but enjoyed this break especially. The staff were really helpful nothing was too much trouble and the food both in Ritsons restaurant and in the bar was excellent. Some public areas need updating but I believe that this due to be done soon. Will definitely be going back

Stayed at the Castle Inn for 2 nights to attend a wedding down the road at Armathwaite Hall. Our ground floor room was a good size, comfortable bed and clean, costing around £180 for the 2 nights. Check in was quick and the receptionist was polite and helpful. One area to improve is the breakfast - at £14.50 per person you'd expect good quality food that's piping hot - unfortunately the food was cheap and warm at best.
Overall, our experience was OK, 3 stars from me.

Room Tip: Higher floors are quieter

Amazing that's all that is to be said of this venue. Staff work tirelessly special mension to shannon who works on reception who helped me and my brother out with some toothpaste. The staff would do anything to help you. The food is top notch and if i was to pick a fault with this place it would be the pricey bar for drinks. Alot of my guests complained about the drinks prices but you just have to remember your in the Lake District. I highly recommend this place it really made me and my new wifes day that extra bit special.
