“Not at all impressed for the price”
Review of Janeiro Restaurant

During our stay in Rincon in December 2015 Janeiro Restaurant was #1 rated on tripadvisor. On our last night we decided to give the #1 restaurant a try and we were soooooo disappointed. When we arrived for dinner it was not busy. The restaurant(s) were bare except the outside bar area seemed lively. We were seated in a far away room with no one around (maybe because we had a 15 month of child). The room was freezing. The waiter (we had a waiter and waitress) recommended their specialty drinks which he said were the Caipirinha (wow were they expensive). They were very good but I would never pay that much for such a small drink had I known before hand. We placed our appetizer order with the waiter and the waitress came back and said that our original appetizer they were out of and suggested the tostones rellenos. She said it was very very good (more money too). It was mediocre and not something we would of normally ordered plus it was covered with shredded carrots. Our main dishes were mahi fish tacos and Shrimp mofongo. They were both good but nothing special. For being so empty it took along time to receive our food. Not sure why it was #1 during our stay because it was our least favorite place. I wont return when we return.

Janeiro is four separate spaces featuring different decorations and music. The food is fantastic: skirt steak, fish dishes, deserts. One of my favorite deserts is the pistachio creme brûlée. Also, the Brazilian style caipirinhas hit the spot and in general their cocktails are great. Definitely worth leaving the touristic Rincon or Aguada areas for a wonderful meal.
