We recently stayed at the St,Regis Bahia Beach Hotel in Puerto Rico. The grounds were magnificent. The people were very nice and wanted you to feel as if you were part of their family. However, food quality was spotty. Molasses is their restaurant at the golf course. So inedible. Our party was given horrible service and food was so bad that out of 6 people none enjoyed their meal. The meal service was incredibly slow given that the restaurant only had a few filled tables. The outdoor pool area restaurant was not horrible . Best things there were the burger and a surprisingly good rack pf lamb. The Fern restaurant had a great steak. Prices were comparable to the states. Service was nice but at all restaurants the chefs could not put the food on the table in less than an hour. Unfortunately they did not change menus so we ate the same food over and over.....at the pool and Fern. Breakfast buffet was fine. but it was boring , Again nothing special. The seemed to try to keep things stocked but the room the buffet was in was too small to allow for platters of food. The omelet station was in a hall. Too bad it was great. you had to squeeze by folk to get to it.

The beach is rocky staff was fabulous. Had to auger in the pole for the umbrella. Pool are was fine. Nothing breath taking. For the price you wanted more. Pool staff was the best experience I have ever had at any resort. The spa was overpriced and my massage paled when compared to others.

The rooms- Just average sized. must say the upkeep was very shoddy. We did not have a building next to the pool. But talked to a man who did. He said that the building closest to the pool was closest to the beach and to the main building.

On top of $800 per night they had the gall to charge a $60 resort charge. If they gave something for that it would be different. Alas they did not provide any special. They made it very difficult to go top other hotels to gamble and or dine. To be honest Would never want to spend a week or more here. 3 nights would be fine. Children's "camp" cost $50 per child. Then lunch was served Ala carte off the pool menu. May I say this was laughable!

Our Ratings Staff 6 star. Rooms 4 stars food 3 stars. Amenities 3 stars. Bugs 8 stars. They had the gall to charge $18 for a can of OFF. Bring your own. It is sorely needed. The iguanas poop in the pool. Not sure how hygienic that was. Frankyly it was gross

over all - we will NEVER come back. Compared to a Four Seasons experienceI would rate this a bitter disappointment.

All in all for a 5 diamond property We felt this was a disappointing experience.

Room Tip: make sure you get a room with ocean view in a building that has only 6 rooms

We had a lovely room facing the ocean. It was a nice size, and Building 10 is right next to the large, multi-level pool. Although it was Thanksgiving weekend, we had no trouble getting chairs at the pool no matter how late we arrived. The two mile-long beach and the grounds of the hotel were lovely. The resort is nearly 500 acres -- therefore it is quite private. We enjoyed using the complimentary bikes to bike around the property, which includes a nature reserve. Another great feature is the lake/lagoon on the property. There is a large blow up slide, trampoline, and climbing toy in the lake that was a lot of fun for the kids. We also used the complimentary kayaks and paddleboards on the lake. We did a few of the activities, like making a gingerbread house, and a nature tour by golf cart. We also played tennis. There is no extra charge for any of these activities. You can also use the driving or putting range for no additional charge. The hotel is very expensive, however, so if you are looking for good value, this isn't it.
Negatives: The hotel is not close to San Juan, nor is it close to any good restaurants, so we ate only at the resort. The service at Fern and the beach side restaurant was quite spotty but the food was good (not great). We have been to Puerto Rico several times and were not interested in sight seeing, so the location of the hotel was not an issue for us. If you are interested in visiting the rainforest, it is only about 15 minutes away. This wasn't an issue for us, but in case this is relevant to you, the resort is spread out, and requires a lot of walking or taking golf carts. Whenever we called to ask for a golf cart they sent one quickly.

I have stayed at the hotel 2x with my husband.

Positives:
Grounds are beautiful. Very green, serene and peaceful. Never felt overcrowded even when hotel was full. Lovely pool. small lake for boating and water activities, bikes available to ride around property, golf course and driving range.

Fern restaurant is excellent, Molasses is okay.

I've had facials at the spa; not exceptional, but they were good and quite relaxing.

Negatives:

Sand fleas. Got 30+ bites when on the driving range. Understanding that this isn't something the hotel can control, it would have been nice for them to mention this at the clubhouse before we went onto the course.

I left a necklace in my room when we checked out. Called the hotel on our way home to let them know and security said they would look into it. Called a couple times after to see if it had been located, and didn't get any calls returned. Farewell necklace. I expected a higher level of follow up / service from a St. Regis.

Spent 5 days here before Thanksgiving with my husband. We used points for the stay so had a regular room with a garden view. It was a great size, very private and had a path to the pool that was very convenient. It was in building 8. The grounds were really amazing. Very lush. Loved hearing the calls of the frogs at night while we walked to dinner. The beach is beautiful. We read several reviews that it was small which makes no sense. It is two miles long, very walkable and swimmable. There are lifeguards directly in front of the hotel. It is very wide. Beach service was great. The pool is large and nicely designed so that it feels like multiple pools. Plenty of loungers poolside. It was peaceful and relaxing but the best part was the staff. So extremely professional and warm at the same time. Over the top politeness and desire to please. Shout out to Nabila, Amman, Edwin, Omary and Shanabys (I may be spelling some names wrong...sorry). Highly recommend.
