Description: On crossing the wooden bridge that leads to Ristorante Pappagallo, you will see swimming beneath there are sleek silvery tarpon, always on the lookout for scraps from the kitchen. You are thus, thrown into a world of the exotic, even before reaching the front door! Then, as you enter the spacious foyer, you're met at the front door by an African gray parrot, humorously called Humphrey Bogart. He is one of the oldest Pappagallo employees with over ten years experience in welcoming guests and posing for photos (especially with the little ones!). You will then immediately notice the inviting and well-stocked bar, decorated in an art deco style, where customers can take pre-dinner drinks or enjoy an after dinner drink in a cool and inviting atmosphere. On your right hand side, lies one of our two dining rooms, the Pappagallo Room. Inside, the impressive high ceiling will grab your attention, with its typical Mexican-style thatching. Wrought iron lights gently illuminate the air-conditioned room and huge glass-fronted bird cages feature all around the walls housing live parrots, macaws, cockatoos and African grays, all vying for your attention. The walls are also decorated with colorful pictures of parrots and a giant turtle shell which came from a 500 pound green sea turtle, which was raised in Cayman at West Bay's Turtle Farm. All this, and a great view of the waterfall cascading into the lagoon directly outside the room... how can you possibly forget that you are dining in a tropical paradise? On your left hand side of the foyer is the Flamingo Room, also with a fabulous thatched roof, this time in a traditional Cayman style. The entire roofing used 100,000 fronds and took over 6 months to construct - no mean feat. The Flamingo Room is left open to catch the cooling breeze, but is air-conditioned when the weather dictates. Here, you can enjoy a fabulous panoramic view over the lagoon. Large prints of flamingos decorate the walls and again, wrought iron lights lend their soft glow.Beyond this room lies a third eating area, the Garden Patio, a large screened- in porch where diners eat al fresco during the cooler winter months. This also has a magnificent lagoon view and Pappagallo usually caters for large parties & weddings here.

I travel a lot, usually disappointed with restaurants in general, but Ristorante Pappagallo is an exception. Starting with our waiter, a jolly gentleman and very professional. I started with the chopped salad - very fresh and tasty, then spaghetti - al denti and perfect, closely followed by the veal piccata - excellent and fork tender. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Big place, yet there was only 7 of us in the entire restaurant. Was a little cold in the restaurant, but no big deal. Food was good, wine was good. Nothing bad to say. Check it out if youre staying on the island. OH! It can be hard to find! so make sure you know where you are going.

I recently celebrated my birthday at Pappagallos. What a wonderful setting with the full moon shining across the water, the attentive staff, and exquisitely prepared cuisine! It was a magical evening. Thank you!

Basically, to sum it up... you probably can get great Italian in your own city, so why go to a place that doesn't even offer outdoor seating to have Italian food that is marginal (compared to what I have had in Dallas..... )

Atmosphere walking up is sort of cool but then you get in and they have to have the giant plastic covers down so that bugs don't get in... so basically your view is through thick plastic with indoor lights shining off of them. Yes, there are cool birds, but they didn't seat anyone in that section.... I was ready to leave... wished I had gone somewhere else.

It simply is a pleasure to eat at Ristorante Pappagallo. We first ate there 10 years ago on our honeymoon. It was simply incredible then and we had been talking about it for the past ten year.
When we returned (now with our two children) it was every bit as wonderful as we remembered! The food was classic Italian with fresh al dente pasta. Traditional Italian meal with outstanding service and environment. The owner Vico is omnipresent, ensuring everyone is having a great meal and time. I would give this my highest recommendations and would say a trip to Grand Cayman is not complete without going to Ristorante Pappagallo.
