This is a good beach with a wide expanse of sand and good facilities and an excellent park for picnics. It is a great place to walk the beach. and there is ample parking around the Life Saving Club.

We went for a nice walk along the foreshore of Elwood beach. Cold sunny days all rugged up was beautiful. There were even people in there bathers.

As you walk from Elwood beach to St Kilda there are tiles etched into the path that tell a story of the how things were in Elwood. If you are lucky you might spot a dolphin. The hustle and bustle of this walk is shared by runners, lovers, families all the wonderful diverse culture of Melbourne. You can stop along the way with plenty of benches. There is also a cyclist path for those inclined. A rotunda milk bar for the thirsty or an ice-cream if you wish.

Elwood Beach is a clean sandy beach heading South from the Point Ormond hill. There are cycling and walking tracks through it and toilets and food facilities, too. There is no shelter to speak of and when a cool change arrives, you had better rush for cover. It is a great place to look across the bay at sunset. It can be hard to get to by public transport, but some bus routes come close.
