The flight from Miami to Lisbon was OK, but we paid extra for seats with extra legroom but were not assigned to onw. We arrived in Lisbon and caught our flight to Funchal. The airport was closed due to high winds, we circled for 45 minutes hoping the airport would open, but it didn't and we flew back to Lisbon. TAP just had two agents to rebook a full Airbus 320. We were booked on a flight that was due to leave in 7 h \ours. We were given meal coupons, but there was no comfortable place to wait. They would not let us use their lounge, which would have cost 35 euros each and there was no discount considering the situation. When it was time for the flight and we expected to board, we were sent to another gate where you had to take the bus to the plane. On the day we were supposed to leave, the outer bands of Hurricane Leslie closed the airport for two days. We could not make new arrangements on line, but had to go to the airport at the cost of 35 euros each way. TAP booked us into a more than decent hotel and fed us for two days and sent a car for us to take us to the airport. The flight left late due to air traffic in Lisbon. We got to the gate for our Miami flight and it was announced that the flight was delayed due to weather and not to leave the gate area. There were not many chairs and standing room was packed. At the time we were scheduled to leave, we were boarded. The captain apologized and said the delay was due to a crew member being in an accident There was no reason for the gate crew to lie to us and say it was weather. My mobile weather app showed no weather problems and again we were not given extra legroom seats we paid for. I have to say that seeing Madeira was worth the flight pain. The cabin attendants on all of the flights were wonderful.
