Review of Alitalia

We have flown Alitalia a few times and I would call those trips average, but we found our most recent trip, (Bari to FCO to Palermo), a really nice experience. The check-in was excellent - the airport staff was very accomodating - as was the flight, which was ontime.
Anyone who has every changed planes in Rome knows how challenging that can be, but the airport staff there were friendly and helpful. I would fly them again.

Did not inform passengers about the cancellation of flight because they went on strike. They claim plane had technical difficulties, poorly run airlines stay away.

Speedy checkin Terminal 4 Heathrow. Fast lane immigration.
Excellent business class lounge with good food and comprehensive booze.
I'd googled the Alitalia business class prior, and there were many negative comments, but in terms of value for money (£275 return) it was still good value for money. OK; no hot towel, wine served in plastic cup, no champagne. No designer seat, just extra leg room. But, all being said, the flight team were: smart, courteous and it was only a 2.5 hour flight.
Congratulations to Alitalia on a difficult job, in difficult times. Salute!!

We had a family trip booked to Rome (myself, my partner and 2 young children). About 30 minutes into the flight, my partner reclined her seat slightly. An Italian male aged approximately in his early 20s began to punch her seat hard when she did and then grabbed her seat with both hands and violently shook her in it. I watched him in disbelief. He was extremely aggressive and put his hands up to her in a very confrontational manner.

I got up and went to the back of the plane to report it to two air stewardesses. They called the head cabin crew lady and as soon as I told her what happened she rolled her eyes backwards like I was wasting her time. She said to me "So what shall I do?".I said to speak to the person who just assaulted my partner for a start. They brought him to the back of the plane and he denied the assault speaking in Italian. I demonstrated what he did to an empty chair and this male looked to the ground in what looked like embarrassment and he didn't deny it. I told the air stewardesses to look at his reaction now and that he wasn't denying it and staring at the ground embarrassed.

The head cabin crew lady passed judgement saying he probably didn't hit the chair hard despite not witnessing what he did. They could have spoken to other passengers that would have backed up our account as they witnessed it too. They seemed to want me to stop reporting the incident and make it go away rather than deal with it properly.

My partner complained to the air stewardesses that her back was hurting and asked for pain killers. The flight attendants refused to give her anything and the head cabin crew lady sarcastically said she will call her an ambulance when we land.

The cabin crew stayed at the back of the plane with this young male after we returned to our seats and were laughing and joking with him. It was unbelievable how they treated a suspect of an assault so nicely and frowned at us and made sarcastic comments to us as the victims. Myself and my partner are ethnic minorities and both of us felt that they treated us like second class citizens and took this suspect's side automatically. It felt they discriminated against us due to being ethnic minorities.

Upon landing, they had not arranged any medical assistance for my partner despite saying they will call her an ambulance for her back. This goes to demonstrate how sarcastic she was being. They also did not call the Police to deal with the assault and they let the suspect leave without any issue. The head cabin crew ignored my partner when she left the plane and did not even say bye to her despite being a victim "in her care". She completely ignored her duty of care to us and it felt completely racial.

We lodged a comprehensive complaint to Alitalia upon returning to the UK and made it clear it felt like they treated us like second class citizens because we are ethnic minorities. They said they will look into the matter and did not feed back their findings to us. They did not take the matter seriously and I pointed out that the cabin crew assisted the suspect of an assault to leave the plane without Police intervention and they did not provide any medical assistance to my partner who was complaining of pain from him assaulting her back. They did nothing about the matter and closed the complaint.

This is the worst airline I have ever been on and we will never book with them again

Each time I call Alitalia regarding seat selection I get a different answer. I was told that if upgrade to economy plus the seats recline 25% more. When I called back was told thats not true. Then I called again to see if I upgraded if price went down which it did not they told me for $85PP I can get economy plus and seat reclines 25% more so I did that.
Then next time I called was told not true . I emailed Customer service get no response. When you speak to an agent they say there is no manager so no way to solve issues.
