“Friendly crew, efficient, comfortable flights (big & tall passenger)”
Review of Aer Lingus

Reviewed 4 October 2024

Also flew Edinburgh to Dublin on smaller Airbus during same trip.

Flight from Boston to Dublin only took 5 hours! Amazing!

Transatlantic flights seated in exit rows, amazing amount of room. I'm 6ft (183 cm) tall, around 260 pounds (113-ish kg) , was thrilled with the amount of legroom in my exit row, aisle seats. If it helps other larger passengers, I did not require a seat belt extension, and had plenty of room left in the belt. I carry most of my extra weight in my stomach/upper body. (apple shaped.)

The cabin crew on all of my flights were friendly and attentive. I ordered low-sodium meals, which included a chicken and rice based main on both. Main was ok, but I was quite happy to be served several nice fruit salads on my flights. The meals passengers around me were eating all looked and smelled nice for food served in the air, especially for economy flights.

On the short flight from Edinburgh to Dublin, the seats were very comfortable. A cushier leather type sadly not found on the transatlantic service. The entire plane is economy for these short hops. I was seated near the front, which was nice, and again had plenty of legroom in a typical 3 and 3 configuration, standard exit row seat. I also did not require a seatbelt extension for this flight

This was my first time flying Aer Lingus, and I would happily travel with them in the future.

@AerLingus what an absolute disaster! You failed to load my luggage for an entire week while I was stuck in a foreign country with nothing. When I finally got it back, the bag was broken. I filed a compensation request back in JULY and here we are, months later, with no response to my emails and no compensation. I’ve tried contacting you multiple times with ZERO follow-up. How can you treat customers like this? Completely unacceptable and unprofessional. Do better.

1. Horribly uncomfortable economy seats on Aer Lingus’s Boston-Dublin route (Sept. 12, 2024). Sadistic. The seat “cushion” is more like a steel tray covered in a bit of cloth upholstery. And no, neither the pillow nor the paper-thin blanket will double as a cushion, so be prepared to get about 15 minutes of sleep, max.

2. Tray table and entertainment console were filthy / smudged with food stains.

3. Entertainment options were weak. B movies, Thirty Years of Friends, poorly-executed plugs for mom-and-pop shops in Ireland (Where are these places so I can, you, know, buy something? No idea.), Irish TV, etc.? What, Columbo and Kojak licensing fees too high?

4. Intercom was all but useless. The pilot said something before take-off, or at least I think it was the pilot.

5. The chicken curry left me soon after it entered. Stay strong, Dublin Airport.

6. Online seat selection for changed flights is confusing. Once you’ve selected your seats, the system states that “seats cannot be selected at this time”. The truth? You’ve successfully selected your seats, Aer Lingus just wants to play hide the seat assignment until you access your boarding pass.

7. Moral of the story, you get what you pay for. Keep your expectations low.

Had return flight to Manchester from Dublin cancelled due to “operational issues” the night before the original flight time. Initial communication was slow. Had to find emergency accommodation at our expense.

Was left with no option but to find a hotel to stay in; we were informed we would have all “out of pocket expenses” repaid; no offer of assistance to find anywhere to stay the extra night was forthcoming; no offer of a voucher for the inconvenience caused was offered, I had to do the chasing to find out what was to happen next. We had “out of pocket expenses” of approx. £500.00

After a 3 month wait, with no communication from Aer Lingus in that time, we finally received an email to inform us we were to receive compensation to the value of £93.00.

Having included receipts for our “out of pocket expenses”, payment method for the expenses paid; the email from Aer Lingus stated the method of payment for the expenses was provided in our claim.

Aer Lingus closed our claim!

We have since been back in touch with the Aer Lingus Customer Service team who referred our case to a higher level. That was 10 days ago; we’re still awaiting a call back.

Would highly recommend customers think twice before flying with Aer Lingus!

This was possibly the worst experience flying I've ever had. The grouchy gate agent refused to let us bring our carryon bags onto the plane, so we had them tagged at the gate. This individual barked his orders at us that we were not to take the bags onto the plane. Meanwhile, others with the same-sized bags were allowed on with theirs. As we proceeded over the bridge with our bags to set down just before embarking on the plane, the flight attendant noticed us and told us to bring the bags on the flight stating that the circumstance at the gate was very odd. So, we brought our bags on, put them in the overhead bin and as we were getting seated, the gate agent came running onto the plane calling out our name scolding us. We immediately directed him to the flight attendant who told him there were no issues with the luggage. Thank goodness for this flight attendant. I would avoid this airline at all costs.
