We really enjoyed our week around the Med on the ship which was a first time for us having previously travelled with P and O and MSC. It’s a cheap and cheerful cruise, everything was all inclusive, good locations, not overcrowded and fortunately you didn’t have to pre book everything on board. Only downside was we were at the back on deck 8 and at night it was at times like being in a hurricane, those engines are very noisy at times. I’d go again with Tui. We also liked the fact it wasn’t too big. Have previously sailed on the Iona and Britannia with P and O, way too large, especially the former.

We did the one week cruise to Dubrovnik, Split, Trieste and Montenegro. Sailing from Corfu. We stayed for a week in Corfu after the week's cruise. Would definitely recommend cruise and stay. We only did 2 organised excursions, it was easy to do Dubrovnik (stunning) and Trieste independently. We would not recommend Kotor (Montenegro) Land and Sea. We spent most of the time on a coach in traffic jams and had very little time left to tour the old town of Kotor. Tui really need to assess that particular trip. On board our cabin was lovely. However, we were on Deck 10, just one floor below the swimming pool and bars. One night it was particularly noisy - Deck 9 would be better. The food on board was first class - we ate breakfast in the buffet restaurant, lunch in the Mediterranean Bar and dinner in Latitude 53. Vista is an Italian restaurant within Latitude - we ate there once and it was brilliant. We didn't try any of the payable speciality restaurants. Our only complaint is the fruit juice in the buffet restaurant - not fruit juice, more like sugary water! Beware, the ice cream on the sun deck is extra as are crisps from the bar. The grab and go sandwiches and salads at lunchtime are a good idea - available near the bar on the sun deck. The entertainment on board was brilliant. This was only our second cruise - the first being on a Royal Caribbean ship - and Tui's embarking and disembarking procedures were much more efficient. We would recommend the ship and the itinerary.

We were persuaded to book a cruise on Marella Explorer around the Greek Islands. We were disappointed with the ship as it looked a lot better in the photos. The food in the restaurant and the buffet was more school dinners than fine dining. The staff were really good but the entertainment was mor Pontins than West End. The places we visited were wonderful but, if we go again, it will not be with Marella. We completed an online survey when we got back and not had any response. We now seem to be blocked from their online complaints as our booking reference is 'unrecognised' even though we have only been home two weeks. Never again will we use Marella.

Do not go in rooms 4174 and 4176. You room is above engines and all night the room shakes and everything rattles which makes it impossible to sleep. Check your room before leaving UK. We didn’t and wasn’t aware of any problems but other people that end of the boat all experienced major noise issues. The ship is dated. The entertainment is very similar everyday. Same people all the cruise except one comedian one night. It gets extremely boring. Nothing interesting to do on board unless you like every quiz and game show under the sun every single day. Food is very hit and miss. Don’t order steak. They ask how you want it cooked but you might aswell not bother as it comes out the same all of the time. There’s quite a lot of fish which isn’t great when you don’t eat fish. Staff were generally very nice and helpful apart from reception. When I complained about my room on the first day the answer I got is that I have to put up with it. No one got back to us for days until we continually kept complaining. You have to pay for bottled water but you can get cans of beer for free- what’s the sense of that. There are water stations but the water doesn’t taste right. The all inclusive drinks were mostly horrible- watered down etc. The ports were good but the coach drops you off after 5 minutes and you’ve got no idea where to go. Should be a map somewhere. Overall I have come home knackered and feeling very disappointed. I would not recommend this cruise.

Everyone in our party has been on other cruise ships with other companies than TUI Marella. That being said one person had travelled with them five years ago. To put this in context. Everyone we talked to on this cruise had had a negative experience with management or the reception staff on this ship. From the moment we arrived on the boat, the chap on reception who was answering a query from one of our party was so ignorant to her that we eventually just told her to leave. The rooms are small and although they were clean they were basic. We went to the main buffet and to be honest it was fine, but as the cruise went on we named it the piggery. The food in the other restaurants were very hit or miss one evening it was lovely the next night it was awful. Sometimes the food was hot and sometimes it was lukewarm. It was very evident that the ship was totally understaffed, especially in the restaurants and bars. The staff that were there were amazing, the managers were not, we personally witnessed managers shouting and cursing at staff in front of multiple passengers. We also spoke with multiple people who also shared their experiences of this happening to them too. There were less than 10 entertainers who did the shows each evening, there were about four or 5 singers/bands who sang at the pool/bars at night. They sand the same songs every time they performed, even the playlist of chart songs that they played by the pool each day were also on a loop and by the end of the week we were all so sick of listening to them. The pool was a death trap as we witnessed over 20 people fall, staff took photos on some occasions but we heard that on many occasions they blamed the passengers for not taking care. The worst part was the complete lack of customer care or service especially from reception. I went up to ask why we had payed for the WiFi (advertised on the boarding card cover and on their paperwork in the room as being free) we all paid £40.00 but when you tried to login it didn’t work. We went to reception the following day and were informed that this had been used up already because of background apps. I informed them that I had turned off my WiFi and my data when it obviously wasn’t working and was told that couldn’t be true as my data was used. Total con just to get more money. They also when I informed them that our travel agent had spoken with Marella directly prior to us travelling to confirm that we would have a room booked for us to have on the day of our departure; this was confirmed by TUI, but when we went a couple of days into the cruise to get more details on this we were informed that it wasn’t booked and that there were no rooms left. When I complained that was what had been agreed I was told that this was my problem, he then when on to tell me that he didn’t care and if we gave a bad review TUI wouldn’t care either as they had our money. We witnessed the appalling treatment of other passengers being verbally abused by reception staff! This has been a dreadful experience, we spoke with our travel agent who said that she’d received multiple complaints by others on our cruise and since. We will NEVER go on another Marella cruise again. In fact we aren’t likely to use TUI again as we have had a much better experience with other companies. Shame on you TUI
