Took Western European Capitals cruise—itinerary and destinations very good. Our room steward, Palm Restaurant hosts/waiters, and several front desk staff excellent, and various other staff cordial and helpful as well. After we booked, Princess started charging for things that had been free when we booked (such as room service), and also reduced the length, and took away local-specialties lunch from a shore excursion we had paid for many months before, and didn't provide any refund/onboard credit. Princess did not bother to reply to our email followups regarding this before our cruise, and the onboard shore excursion staff person had what we felt was a nonsensical reason he couldn't assist. Also not able to get information related to the cruiseline's Amsterdam On Your Own shore excursion bus drop-off point before our cruise, or onboard, in time to contact the private canal tour operator we booked in Amsterdam to determine best pick-up point for the canal tour. As a result, unnecessarily walked a long way to a meet-up point. Berlin shore excursion train ride took much longer than described in shore excursion materials (and not just because of unforeseen delays—since according to train staff, the train ride was always longer than described, even without delays), and as a result, excursion time in Berlin was rushed and did not include some promised sites, which was quite disappointing. Lunch at a Berlin restaurant on that excursion was good, though. Boarding of train quite disorganized and time-consuming, and onboard toilets did not flush, with resulting terrible urine smell in train cars near toilets, and unpleasant and unhygienic experience for anyone using toilets. (The college-student hosts onboard the train said the toilet waste was just dropped onto the train tracks, vs. going into any type of storage tank, which seemed not so eco-friendly). Excursions in other ports were good, although on some where the guides/guests didn't have whisper headsets, it could be challenging to hear the guides since we were in a large group and at sites that had lots of people. It appears plumbing can be an issue on the ship, since we passed cabins on various decks where crews were suctioning and striving to dry out carpets from overflowing toilets. The cabin next to ours had a sewage overflow into our cabin, and the smell was terrible for several days, definitely affecting our enjoyment. On the plus side, we REALLY LIKED the overall size, storage space and balcony in our mini-suite cabin, and the fact that the cabin had a bathtub and thus a larger bathroom than regular cabins. Also liked that Princess has laundry machines for guest use.

I wish they had quiet spaces or just a soft piano playing. In the Plaza it was always loud music and you had to almost yell to talk to someone. They have a piano, but never did we notice anyone playing it. On Holland America they have a symphony that is wonderful to listen to and quiet areas to relax. We love it when they have violinists that play soft, relaxing music. We noticed the windows were not cleaned and never clear. Our deck had bird pooh every day, etc. You could tell it was not being cleaned. On other cruises, you always had a clean deck. Toilet problems lasted several days and we were given excuses like well, kids are flushing things they should not. However, one did not flush in a public area without cabins. Though we never experienced this on other cruises. It is awful when you cannot flush your toilet. I read others have had the same problems with the toilets on this cruise ship. Doors including elevator needed to be repaired or replaced. They had many dings and missing paint. We did enjoy the food and tea time. The staff were quite nice and accommodating. Also the ports of call were great. There were some lovely areas that were pristine. (John 3:16)

Caribbean Princess should be taken out of service, it's starting to show it's age Guest Service were next to useless, unable to resolve our problem, never kept us in touch Buffet restaurant was definitely targeted to the Americans, eggs were uncooked, plates were usually cold, only crispy bacon available,no proper sausages available, who wants bread pudding for breakfast? Tables were hard to locate, nobody was moving. The entertainment was poor, who wants see a man working with balloons for 45 minutes? The rest of the offerings were in the same vein.

A very disappointing experience especially as we were introducing our friends to cruising telling them it is a holiday above all others. Having cruised with 3 other companies we have some experience of the standards we expect and they did not meet them. There is absolutely no point in going into lots of detail other than to say that if you are used to your cruising being the best holiday experience you have had. Do not book with this company. The ship was oversubscribed and to be honest, in my opinion does not meet the standards expected from a modern cruise ship.

BEWARE! Yes we knew the ship was older and yes it did rock more without stabilizers. But what I was not prepared for was the plumbing issue we had in our state room and across the ship including public bathrooms. The toilet did not flush correctly a.k.a. it just filled up with water. We were on a six day cruise and 3 to 4 of the days we had to call somebody in, in the morning so we could go to the bathroom and flush our toilet. Which didn’t happen right away! This was happening in the public areas as well. When you go somewhere, you expect to have the proper facilities, no matter how old the ship is. It was my SIL first cruise and it wasn’t the best showing for Princess.
