I can only feedback in general for atm. You need to find an atm that supports cirrus network. Usually the atm will have the cirrus logo.
You will be withdraw the cash in RP. Based on prevailing forex and fees, the equivalent in AUD will be deducted from your home country account.
If Sorong is your first place of visit, suggest to bring some cash and exchange it at the international airport which is your first entry port.

ATM supporting Cirrus will be impossible-to-none find in sorong. I'm sure you are traveling via cgk, so my advice is to Pre-exchange your money there - several Money changers are available in cgk arrival Hall after customs control. ATMs are aplenty too.
Note: better have Visa or MasterCard.

No, it's not only " transiting" in your case. Cgk Will be the entry point to the country, the place where you go through passport control and the customs, and change terminal. Sure you'll have time to exchange money.
