Campamento's and the WIND ...

Can someone provide a brief rundown on which sites are somewhat protected from the wind (ie Italiano) and which are exposed? We'll be using tents at Italiano, Las Torres, Seron, Los Perros and Paine Grande, so am particularly interested in those. Thanks!

Hello. I haven’t hiked the O circuit in TdP. If you don’t get any replies from people about their recent experiences, maybe this really good O circuit trip report from March 2016 can help you. You can contact this person directly for more information.

You can also read Tripadvisor reviews of the places where you will be camping to see what people say about exposure to the wind. The campground reviews are listed under Specialty Lodging for Torres del Paine. For example, the June 2015 TA review of Camping Los Perros by Swoop Patag mentions that it’s sheltered from the wind:

This February 2017 review of Camping Paine Grande by Marcin M mentions that the campsites are not protected from the wind:

As you probably know, there were some changes in TdP starting last season, after the March 2016 O circuit report was posted. You now have to reserve all refugios and campsites in advance. You now have to pay full board at both Camping El Chileno and Camping Cuernos. You now have to hike the back part of the O circuit counterclockwise (Seron, Dickson, Los Perros, Paso, and then Grey). I don’t know if the catamaran schedule will change again this upcoming season, but here’s the catamaran schedule from last season if you haven’t already seen it:

Good luck.

Are you renting or taking your own equipment? All the cmapsites except italiano the wind hit very hard. So make sure you have a good tent at least a 4 season tent.

Thanks Will, that's very helpful. We plan to use our own tents. We have a variety to choose from, ranging from several 3-season tents (that are very stable when fully staked and guyed out) to full on 4-season mountaineering tents. We start the "O" on Oct 27, so will be on the backside of the park in early Nov.
