Hi Scoobie

There are a couple of nice places to eat in Callao, La Romantica and Delphin for evening meals and Bonnies Tea Room through the day. The horrible old Beckhams bar has closed and reopened as Mimi's cafe which looks totally different and very nice.

IMO prices in Callao are slightly higher than in the southern resorts and not as much choice of course due to the size of the village.

Sueno Azul is set back from the sea, has a nice swimming pool area and although it is a few years since we stayed there the villas although small (we had 2 bed just above the pool and by reception) were very nice - sure you will have a great time.

Scoobie ..the Europa restaurant , just opposite the Pearly Grey Resort is also very good and very reasonable for good food ....On some nights they do an excellent BBQ ....

The Pearly Grey Also have an excellent chef , preparing some of the best food I have eaten on the Island .....I'm sure they will take in outside guests ...because we often saw them in the bar .....as we did last month in Los Cristianos , we took advantage to eat in the Paradise Park Hotel even though we were not staying there and only costing 9euros pp for 3 courses ....

The two restaurants already mentioned above are very good ....there is another we went to right at the end of the road near the Delphin (but can't remember the name) it was an OK meal , but not as good as the Europa , the Europa being half the price .....

As I haven't stayed in Callao for just over a year now ...not sure what is still open or closed ....

We visit Callao regularly, and although the town is quite small, there is still a couple of good dining options, and reasonably priced also. As already mentioned La Romantica & Delphin's can be good (although could do with a makeover), and Bodegon (think that is how it is spelt) down near Delphin is fine. Dont forget to try Bar Eclipse's superb sandwichs and dinner specials, run by some expats, but frequented by the locals which cant be a bad sign! If you are there for a week or more, you may want to try ourside of town a couple of nights (a taxi to La Caleta won't cost that much and great Seafood restaurants)

Good suggestion dhuvarren ! a taxi to Caleta where there are some lovely restaurants ....Or a day time trip by bus in the other direction to Playa San Juan where there are some good restaurants ....and Taberna del Puerto comes to mind which has a good reasonable menu and is right by the small harbour ...

Nobody has mentioned the combined Indian/Chinese restaurant (referred to by the locals as the "Chindian"!) down the steps next to Banco Santander. Is it still there? It was very good value for their buffet meal (choice of both Indian and Chinese quisine. I think it was only 9 Euros.

Hi Johnboy

Everywhere that has been mentioned is of course down to personal taste so we may not all agree as we like different things.

The Samrat was good the first time we went for a curry but the last time was very average, when we had Chinese and perhaps we have been spoilt by Pekin Palace in Torviscas.

The Bodegon is about 6 locales further on from the Romantica. They do excellent lamb and goat but you need to give 24 hours notice.

You will find everything mentioned in the above posts, very easily as Callao (the resort part as opposed to the residential part) really only has one main road with a couple of streets running off.

Took the dogs for a walk yesterday to Playa San Juan and stopped for a bite at La Taberna Del Puerto I've been quite a few times for a drink but we decided to have something to eat as being early afternoon all of the other places we normally would choose to eat on an evening were closed for siesta. The meal was a bit disappointing; the chips were really greasy. If you should decide to visit go on an evening try the Atlantic Bar or the Paloma Bar both do excellent food at very reasonable prices. They also have entertainment most evenings.

Thanks, M.

Yes, we tried the Bodegon last time. If I remember it's in two parts. One is more a bar doing lighter meals and the other (at the end of the block) is the "proper" restaurant. La Romantica had changed hands last year but did not try it. They were just fitting out the place formerly known as Beckhams, so we'll give that a try too. We will be there in July (I'm sure it will be v hot!) and hopefully the new beach will have progressed well (ever the optimist!).

Hi, guys thanks for all the replies , really looking forward to our visit , don't want and did not expect callao to be rocking as long as there are a few good eateries thats fine. what about bars !!!!!! we will as i say be visiting neighbouring resorts , how far is duque and caleta in a cab and what are prices like , we will prob bus it to las americas or cristianos as we are familiar with these resorts. We are staying in a front line penthouse with a huge roof terrace , can't stop looking at the stunning pics ;-)

There are plenty of bars to choose from, many having pool tables/t.v's, others with light entertainment. We prefer to drink on in the restaurants we visit, but it depends what you are into. There is an Irish bar, a few German/Danish bars, plenty of English style pubs, and there was a small winebar last time we were there. Bar Eclipse's serve a mean mojito's - very refreshing. Taxi's to Caleta will not set you back too much (10 euro perhaps one way). At least you can enjoy a drink on your roof terrace watching the great sunsets - we normally rent a villa/apartment, and make avail of this before heading out!!
