Current wind conditions - Stingray tours

Hi Guys,

We have been meaning to book a stingray tour but have heard there is a ban going on this week for small crafts due to the wind conditions.

What do you recommend is this accurate and what is the weather conditions for this coming weekend - Sunday mainly will the tours run?

Would hate to miss this but I have a toddler who is super excited and need some advise.

And if you are keen on seeing the wind and wave predictions in that area, you can take a look at

Click in the [Search] field to take you progressively to one of WindGuru's "official" forecast spots where the full range of model outputs is available:

Cayman Islands ==> Grand Cayman ==> Barkers

That will show you numerical charts of expected wind, waves, and precipitation in the Barkers area - which is a short distance away from Stingray Sandbar on the same side of the island so it's pretty much what to expect on the sandbar. Once you're familiar with the various lines of data presented, you can click on the [Graph] button to see the data presented in a graphical format that I find a clearer way to plan trips in the North Sound. For example right now it shows the strong winds will start subsiding by tomorrow Saturday Nov.26 and then it will be even milder from next week Thursday Dec.1.

But yes, the tour boat operator you choose will be best able to give you their outlook as to whether and when the Stingray Sandbar will be open or closed to charters.

If your tour is cancelled due to weather conditions, please do not be disappointed. There is nothing the OP would rather do than take you to SRC for a wonderful experience. Taking you there under adverse weather conditions would not be pleasant & could be dangerous.

That is in no one's best interest.

This is why DEs always recommend to book the SRC trip early in your stay on the island in case bad weather causes re-scheduling.

We were there 11/18-26th and they were cancelled. We checked for going out from kaibo and yacht club (White Sand Water Sports, Ocean Frontiers, Red Sail (out of Rum Point...they said some were running from SMB), and George's). The wind yesterday (saturday 26th was much better than earlier in the week). We saw sting rays snorkeling off of rum point and just standing on the rum point dock.
