Home base for exploring

Hi all,

Trying to decide where to stay in southwest Ireland that will be a good home base for a few days of exploring. We will have a car and plan to at least see Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry and Cliffs of Moher. I would prefer a town that is on the small side and quaint but one that still has good restaurants and is not too far from any one sight that it couldn't be done it a day trip. Any suggestions would be great. Thank you!

Well, obviously Killarney will fit the bill. Personally I prefer Kenmare but staying in Killarney will cut quite a few kilometres off the road to Dingle. I wouldn't necessarily recommend to go to the Cliffs of Moher from there, though, too much driving. Maybe you could consider staying closer to the COM another night in order to visit, how about Ennis?

I use Ennis as a base when picking up family / fiends at Shannon & taking them to the Cliffs of Moher & Kilkee Cliffs.

This past Summer based for a week in Killorglin for re-exploring Killarney, The Dingle and Beara Peninsulas.

I am sure Killorglin will suit some. I don't want to stay there again.

IMO either Killarney or Kenmare will do....both are lovely....Killarney has more shops/pubs/eateries but you'd not starve or go dry in Kenmare :-) however, Cliffs of Moher wouldn't be an advisable day trip from either.....
