Is it worth spending a day in Ouistreham

We're staying the last few days at St Jean des Champs and leaving at about 1000 to get the 2300 ferry to Portsmouth from Ouistreham. Should we drive straight to Ouistreham and spend the day there or are we better off stopping at Caen for a bite to eat and a wander and then dinner in Ouistreham? Will Caen be quite busy or will we find parking easily? Is there somewhere cheap or free to park the car all day in Ouistreham?

You will struggle to amuse yourself for a whole day in Ouistreham, unless you have a good book and can drink a lot of cofffee. There is a good fish market in the morning if that is your thing, and over the river some pretty nice beaches, but otherwise Caen is a better bet. Parking is not a problem in either, although you may have to pay a few euros. You could visit Pegasus bridge a few km before you get to Ouistreham (highly recommended) or go 15 mins along the coast to Courseilles sur Mer which is a bit bigger and more interesting if you get bored in Caen.

We'll have two kids with us Hillaire. So though a book and coffee sound really tempting, we've never managed that in the last 9 yrs ;-) Thanks for the tips.
