Tongariro crossing....not sure what to do

So we gave ourselves some wiggle room in our north island itinerary in order to do the Tongariro crossing on the best possible day, we looked at the forecast a couple of days ago and it looked like the end of this week could be okay so we went for it and booked accommodation in the area. I read a lot of the reviews and they are from people that had great weather. For people who know more about the hike than I do, would you still go for it, planning for Thursday or Friday (Thursday ideally) with this forecast?

If the weather safe to do it, you are better to do it than miss out altogether. however, if DOC advise against doing the walk due to the weather conditions dont do it. Be prepared for all weather - sun, snow, wind, rain. It is a fabulous walk. we started off in drizzle and fog and by the time we reached the crater it was hot, then cold and windy at top, passed snow, then beautiful. There is so much to appreciate and honestly if it is cloudy it is still stunning in a moody way.

Check the weather forecast before committing to the walk

the crossing is well worth doing - amazing views, recommend solid shoes, energy foods and water and warm layers ( even if forecast is good)
