When was the last time you were there, 10 years ago? You can still get an ensuite room in very decent guesthouses for under 100,000. I pay US$14 and get a room with air condtioning and TV as well (108,000 kip). I have never seen drunk teenagers in my 3 visits to Luang Prabang, I don't know what part of town you are hanging out in...

I was just in Vang Vieng in March last year and I paid 50,000 kip for my room there, it is in the city center. There are many places for that price, look around near the hospital area.

Thank you for your reply in regard of Vang Vieng. However based on Luang Prabang example, the last year price is not an example. Looking for information from this year.

In regard of Luang Praban - you will be surprised. The info about price was taken from wikitravel with some marks about prices from 2012. Also for Asia prices higher than $10US is very unusual and make me believe that place started to go from backpackers to rich packed tourists.

The guesthouses near the popular temples are indeed overpirced. The owners are taking advantage of the town's World Heritage status. However, if you go past the post office, near the Joma coffee shop, there are some quiet sidestreets where there are numerous little family-run guesthouses for well under $20 per night. Here is the link to the one I mentioned in my previous post, I always stay here when I visit LP, it is only $12 a night during low season.

I regularly stay in a nice place for $20 pn. Anyone who uses Wiki anything as a guide deserves the misinformation they get. Remember anyone can post any rubbish on Wiki***** whatever.

Wiki anything is so unreliable my students are banned from using it as a reference for any assessable task.

Anyone can edit any page - for example, recently the name of the principal of my school was changed ... to that of one of our most troublesome yr 12 students .. haha
