Train to New York

Two visitors are planning to take a 7:15 am train from Buffalo to New York City the weekend of May 5-6th. We are not sure yet on Saturday or Sunday. I am wondering if it is necessary to book much in advance or purchase on the day of travel. Thanks for any comments!

100% necessary as prices jump as the date approaches.

Amtrak tickets are least expensive when purchased at least two weeks in advance.

I kind of doubt that route would sell out like some of the ones from Boston to NYC to DC do, but if you wait it will cost.

Affordable flights from Buffalo to the three NYC airports (JFK. LGA. EWR) may also be worth comparing.

Check out prices ow - there is no guarantee how long the discounted ticket prices will last - it's not a time frame - it's a number of tickets. And once they are gone your ticket prices can go sky high.

And as Kaye_in_Astoria suggested, check out the plane fares. There are often extensive delays with Amtrak trains.
