2 Nights in Santa Fe

We are having a girls weekend in Santa Fe over Labor Day. We will be in town two days and are looking for recommendations on the best restaurants to eat at for our two nights in town. We arrive Friday (driving down from Denver), Saturday morning we are going to Ten Thousand Waves for pampering. In our free time we plan to see the sights but am wondering where we should eat. Also on Sunday we are considering taking a detour back to Denver thru Truchas, Penasco and on up to Taos and then back to Denver. Has anyone done this? Worth it?

Thanks!

If you leave Denver early you will have time for a nice meal Friday night. By "best" do you mean the high end, celebrity chef kind of places or just good decent food??

We enjoy Railyard Restaurant, Cafe Pasquals, Osteria d'Assisi, El Meson, San Francisco Street Bar and Grill, Ore House, Coyote Cafe.

The Shed, Tomasita's, Blue Corn Cafe, Maria's are great for Northern NM food.

Check on www.santafe.org for more ideas.

We just drove to Denver via Taos, then up to Alamosa, Buena Vista and in to Denver. Beautiful views. We did not go through Truchas, but took the river road. We left Santa Fe at 10am and we were in Denver by 6:30pm. We stopped a few times and had a picnic lunch along the way. Traffic through Taos is slow. North of Taos in Fort Garland CO is an interesting fort, worth a visit.

if yur driving down from denver on 25, definitely take the high road back, so scenic. what do you mean by best? sf has all sorts fordown home nm food, still love tomasita's the gold standrard for chile rellenos, although will be so busy over the holiday. coyote cantina is fun, shed always popular. many local joints wont take rez but kitchens are quick. do one nm meal and one nicer if you can afford it, ask the people working at hotel where you stay they should tell you the truth about where they eat. if you want upscale, consider doing that at lunch, prices r lower. u can spend a lot of $$$ for a bad meal so be careful, see what people have to say here in the restaurant reviews
