Ferry wait w/ vehicle in May - Anacortes to Friday Harbour

We are travelling from Anacortes to Friday Harbour on Sunday, May 18th and would like to take a morning ferry with 1 regular vehicle.

Note this is a public holiday weekend in Canada.

How early should we arrive?

Do they fill up generally?

The 8:30 sailing states priority to Sidney, BC vehicles. Does this mean it is usually full?

Thanks for the advice :)

That 8:30 ferry leaving Anacortes for FH is the ferry that stops in FH and goes on to Sidney BC in May and as the schedule says for that run "Priority for Sidney, B.C. vehicles ticketed and in line not later than 8:00 a.m." which means potentially that boat will be full with the car load allotted on that run for FH only traffic. And often times (perhaps always nowadays) they have a homeland security customs agent there at the FH dock for this ferry to screen those getting off (even though the cars didn't come across the border) which adds time. Personally I would go for the 9:30 am direct to FH ferry as that one has car spaces only for FH traffic so more likely not to fill up. No matter what time of year it's always a good idea to come to the Anacortes ferry landing an hour or so before the departure time. You know we do have a population of over 10,000 in this county so plenty of residents take the ferry any time of year.

If you come here to the islands via the ferry much information in detail about the Anacortes ferry terminal and how to get to the ferry landing in Anacortes if you have a car as well as webcams showing you the current car holding lot (and a nice new feature which shows the actual amount of spaces left per vessel sailing for vehicles )is at: …wa.gov/ferries/… At the Anacortes ferry landing you'll find enough to do around the rurally located terminal while you wait for your ferry. Grassy trails lead down to the nearby beach and through the shoreline wetlands. You can get something at the small gift shop, buy drinks and snacks, walk your dog in the dog-walk area and on the beach, relax at a picnic table, or go online using the terminal's wireless Internet service (which has a fee). You can buy snacks and a small selection of sandwiches and such at the 'Cheesecake Cafe' inside the Anacortes ferry terminal but don't expect more than fast food quality. Same on the ferry itself when the galley is open.
