Hyatt Hill Country is nice but to froo froo (country clubish) and expensive for my taste. It does have a "river" (big circular track) for a pool. But for the price of one night there - you could spend the whole day at Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels - coolest waterpark in the country.

If you don't need the convenience of staying on the river, skip the downtown hotels. I just checked Hotwire for June 14 - 20 -

4.0 stars $79 per room per night in Riverwalk North and Alamo Area (probably have to pay around $15 a day parking)

4.0 stars $119 per room per night in Six Flags Area

4.0 stars $188 per room per night in SeaWorld - Hill Country Area (probably Hyatt Hill Country.)

As for things to do with kids -

Children's Museum - great for the younger kiddos, within walking distance from most downtown hotels. http://www.sakids.org/

The Buckhorn Museum is across the street from the Children's Museum. Lots and lots of stuffed animals (the real kind). www.buckhornmuseum.com

The zoo is great, one of the best in the country, www.sazoo-aq.org It will require a bus, cab or short car trip. Once you're there, you can also take a miniture train to the Witte Museum. www.wittemuseum.org Among other things it has a fun science treehouse.

Guinness World Records Museum, Ripley's Haunted Adventure - These are WAY touristy, very generic, and too expensive for my mind.

One of the coolest (literally and figuratively) ways to escape the summer heat of south Texas is to head for one of the nearby Caves. Incredible formations with imaginative names like the Jelly Fish, fired eggs, the Bear Pit, or Sherwood Forest spark your own imagination a certainly provide a break from the norm.

Just north of SA on I-35 you'll find Natural Bridge Caverns http://www.naturalbridgecaverns.com/ In addition to being one of the biggest caves in Texas, this is a great family sport with well developed trails and lots of activities including a more physical tour that includes repelling. There's panning for gem stones and a drive-through wildlife park.

In Boerne you'll find The Cave Without a Name. This is a more remote and less touristy alternative. The guides are very knowledgeable and obviously passionate about educating folks. You're apt to get a more personal tour here, on many occasions we've been the only folks on the tour.

Just South of Boerne is Cascade Caverns http://www.cascadecaverns.com/ with an underground waterfall. The facilities here are a little worn

AND BATS

There are very few places in the US where you can witness millions of bats leaving their roosts to go hunting for food. San Antonio is lucky to be near two very easy spots:

One is the Congress St. Bridge in Austin. Advantage - Austin is fun, lots of shopping, restaurants, live music. Downside - it's an urban setting, noise and traffic.

The other is the bat cave at Old Tunnel Wildlife Management Area …state.tx.us/huntwild/… near Fredericksburg. Upside - cool wilderness setting, shopping, and restaurants nearby in Fredericksburg. Disadvantage - viewing area has limited capacity and they close off the area when it reaches capacity (get there early.)

OK here's a secret about the bats (at either location.) While it's way cool to watch them leave at dusk, it's even more cool to watch them come back in the morning. Arrive about 30 minutes before sunrise. Yes I know it's early, but it's worth it! As you approach the roosts, you'll hear this vibrating noise, sort of like paper tearing. It sounds so close. As it gradually gets lighter, you'll start to see them, thousands of bats diving down and into the tunnel or under the bridge. It's so cool! The bats feed at up to two miles high, when they are ready to come back to roost, they tuck in their wings and start a freefall. As the get close to the ground, they open their wings to navigate back to their spot, that's the noise you hear.

As I understand the bats, the population grows throughout the summer with peak populations in late August early September. Also, as summer goes on they start leaving to feed earlier. For more great general information about bats and specific information about local caves, check out Bat Conservation International http://www.batcon.org/home/default.asp

Thanks for all the info I will have to check into priceline. This probably asking for to much but I have been trying to find a hotel with a divder or closed off main bedroom so that me and hubby could get a little privacy at night. (uh he has been gone for 6 months) LOL. Do any of you know of any hotels that have something like that. So far the Omni has that cool kids room but it is 399 a NIGHT! Ouch!. Other than that the staybridges seem to have them. but thats all I hve found so far. We don't mind paying 100-200 for something nice. I have checked the Emily Morgan hotel but it seems to have mixed reviews.

You might want to check out the Hyatt Wild Oaks Ranch. It also has a lazy river and pool w/ waterslides. I've never been before, but am going Memorial Day week. We are paying $150/night for a 1br (with closing door!) condo w/ washer & dryer.

I did a review of the Drury Plaza Hotel and Suites when we stayed there a couple summers ago (the year it opened). It is a fantastic place, and no one in your family will be disappointed. There are rooms with 2 closed off areas that are perfect for families with children. Enjoy!

As a pp said, check out Hyatt Wild Oak Ranch. We just got back from a week there less than a week ago. We LOVED it, and I don't have a bad thing to say about it. We will be back soon! The pool and lazy river are nice enough and big enough that you can spend a whole day there relaxing. Our kids are 4, 3 and 9 months and all had a blast every day. The lazy river has a beach for playing in and lounging, there's two water slides for your 9 y.o. and the adults, there's firepits with smores at night, etc. etc. The grounds are beautiful too! Five minutes to SeaWorld. We had a one bedroom with the washer and dryer, full kitchen, huge bathroom, porch, and yes, bedroom! Paid $150 during the week. Check it out!! Let me know if you decide to stay!

Embassy suites has one on I-10.Also Staybridge suites at Colonade has suites. They are on the northwest side of town, closer to seaworld than downtown is, but I agree if staying downtown, Drury is the way to go.
