What is the best BBQ place in San Antonio?
Lived here for a long time, and we still all argue about this....but our personal favorite, by far, is Grady’s.....however you can expect to get a hundred other recommendations....enjoy!
This differs from person to person, it is like asking best pizza in Chicago.
Yes, you will get plenty of different opinions on this one. Personally, I like Rudy's and they are all over town. I hear Two Bros. is great as is Smoke Shack. Too many to compare, really.
If you want a BBQ road trip (short) head to Lockhart, self proclaimed BBQ Capitol of Texas, where you have a plethora of classic choices. Smitty's is our preference.
SmokeShack is good, but I don't think they really smoke everything, neither does Rudy's or Grady's for that matter. I still go there often, love the brisket grilled cheese and the big dog. Two Bros is legit with a nice area outdoors for kid . 2M smokehouse on WW White is supposed to be very good, but I haven't been. The Big Bib is pretty good as well and properly prepared. The Granary is into serious BBQ, but on the expensive side. For dinner they do gourmet food that all has some BBQ elements.
I agree that you have to go to Lockhart or Luling to get the best, but it's about an 1 1/2 drive each way.
I told you this would be a big debate 😉. Boy, did you start something......
FYI: Grady’s just won the 2017 people’s choice award from DineHere.us
My favorite is the smoke shack on Broadway across from the museum but as others have pointed out it a matter of taste, and perhaps fond memories, and you will not go wrong with any of the restaurants mentioned.Edited: 11 December 2017, 03:05
In SA - top tier - Smoke Shack, Big Bibs, Two Brothers
Next down - Rudy's, Augies, County Line
I avoid - Grady's, Barbecue Station
Haven't tried 2M - Smokehouse It's lunch only, gets great reviews; The Granary 'cue and brew $$$Edited: 11 December 2017, 03:26
People's choice awards are a joke. Olive Garden usually wins Italian if that says anything.
For me, 2M Smokehouse lives up to the hype. Excellent brisket.
Get there early. They open at 11:00am. The line starts forming about 10:15am.
Only open Thurs-Sun. Also, not sure when you are visiting but they will be closed for the Holidays, Dec 17-Jan 2.
2M is the current clear winner in SA. A lot of the other listed use gas to cook.
