There are many Portuguese bakeries in the city. I like Sunrise Bakery. They are located on 506nBolton Street in NB and also have a place on 517 Dartmouth Street in Dartmouth. There is also Goulart Square Bakery. Goulart Square Bakery is located on 413 Rivet StNew Bedford. Goulart Square and the Sunrise on Bolton Street are only three blocks from each other. There is also Lydia's Bakery on1656 Acushnet Ave, New Bedford. Goulart Square and Lydia's are going to be your tried and true Portuguese Bakeries. Sunrise has a lot of beautiful pastries but maybe not authentic Portuguese like the other two.

All great suggestions and there is no need to travel far but if near Pawtucket, The Central Ave Bakery on Central Ave is very good.

I can't help with New Bedford, but in case it's of interest: Do you know Lucia's at 12 Scripture Street in Nashua? It's a treat.

Economy Bakery will give you the best Portuguese cheese, bread and treats to take home. Or, go to a bakery and find a Portuguese person and ask them to make you stuff....THAT is truly authentic stuff!
