Richmond Raceway Tickets for Nascar April 2019

Hi ,

Traveling from Australia in April 2019 to see Nascar under lights at Richmond Raceway.

Can anyone help with dates when the tickets go on sale ?

What is a fan interactive viewing area ?

Is there a racing during the day as well what is the schedule normally ?

Any tips for first timers to American NASCAR RACING ?

We wont have a car but would love to experience 'tailgating' especially now we know what it is .

If we bring a small esky ( aka Cooler ) maybe we could wander the car park ?

Any help or tips regarding this event most welcome.

Thanks Jo

Here is link for the racetrack.

http://www.richmondraceway.com

Info on the website says tickets for 2019 go on sale in December.

Its got lots of info about new infield attraction, sponsored by DC Solar this year.

hopefully a regular will advise you about the tailgating. I would say NO don't bring a cooler. the parking area is HUGE and you'd get exhausted walking around it. Buy a ticket for the infield experience and spend your time walking there.

You don't say how you will get there and back without a car, and you don't say where you're staying. Without a car, transportation is the most important thing for you to have worked out in advance, especially to get out, which will be pretty late. After the race the roads all around the racetrack are quite backed up for miles around after the race so it will likely not be possible to get a taxi or Uber to come and pick you up for several hours after the race ends. One option is to get one of the packages offered through the Raceway that includes hotel and a bus ride as part of the package.

If you don't want to do a package, what you may want to do is find another location a mile or two away (say near the Boulevard, like the Diamond), that you can plan to walk back and forth to in order to call for a ride if you need it. The Clarion Hotel is in that area, and I would consider that within walking distance of the racetrack. I would not recommend any other hotels in that area.

As far as the tailgating goes, a small cooler is fine, even better is a cooler/backpack for walking around; make sure you have no glass in it so you can bring it into the grandstand. Wear clothes that you don't mind getting somewhat messed up as you will be covered with a fine layer of stinky rubber. But it's a blast and you shouldn't miss it if you have the opportunity.

There's usually a shorter race run on Friday night; when tickets go on sale you will be able to see details of that on the website. Daytime is tailgating plus touring the infield (there will be a brand new Fangrounds experience available); you may want to get a pass for that.

Thanks Tango . We do have accommodation ( Hawthorne Ave BB ) but we were counting on Uber or Lyft to get to the race and back . Thanks to your reply we will now hire a car . We are staying for a whole week prior to the race so we could definitely utilize a vehicle to get around.

Make more sense to partake in tailgating if we actually have a car !

Thanks again
