Half a day trip around Richmond.

I will be visiting Richmond tomorrow night and will have a rental car along with me. Will be busy until Friday evening say around 5pm or so and then I have Friday evening and Saturday until 3:00pm before I fly back at 5:30pm on Saturday.

I would like to know some places that I could visit in this time. I wanted to go to Shenandoah, but seems like I won't be able to see much. Every other place I know of are in 2 hours driving distance from Richmond. I am more of a nature's person, so is there anything I can visit while am there. I was thinking of Belle Isle and Maymont. Seems like Shenandoah, Virginia Beach or anything in northern Virginia would be a bit too far for me to drive there Saturday morning and then return back Saturday noon.

Go down to Browns Island and check out the James River at flood stage! you cam walk across the Potterfield pedestrian bridge. https://jamesriverpark.org

No kayaking right now, nobody allowed in the river when its this high.

Maymont would be a good choice, lots of walking trails. also Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens, has butterflies and origami sculptures right now.

Also check out Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, they always have something interesting going on Friday nights!

The Petersburg National Battlefield is about a half hour south. Well worth a visit.

As mentioned above, you should walk across the pedestrian bridge that goes over the James River. The river is at 15 ft and roaring! If you’re lucky, you’ll see some kayakers cruise down (they’re suppose to have a permit when the water is over 9ft).

Maymont is a nice place to walk around, as well as Hollywood Cemetery.
