Jackson Barracks

I read somewhere that Jackson Barracks got severely damaged by Katrina- is it still possible to visit there? My guidebook is a few years old and isn't very clear.

JB's was totally destroyed by Katrina but renovations were completed in 2009.

Thanks again axle, glad to hear the barracks is repaired.

Does anyone know anything about public buses to Jackson Barracks and the Chalmette Battlefield? I'll be staying in the French Qtr and it looks as though I'd be travelling thru the lower 9th ward to get to and fro. Safe area to walk to/wait at bus stops? Thank you in advance!
