What should we pack for our 1st trip to New Orleans April 19-23?
Not knowing what you plan to do, here are some basic guidelines:
Comfortable walking shoes since you'll always walk much farther there than you intend to.
Pieces you can layer. Days are warm, evenings can be chilly. If it's damp, it goes right through you.
Something nice enough for a special dinner or two.
The French Quarter is a pretty casual place, even in the evenings, so wear what you feel good in. You can do Bourbon St. bars in t-shirts and jeans, or you can go all-out Vegas clubwear--you won't feel out of place either way.
Most restaurants in NOLA are very casual. But most people dress up some to go to Galatoire's and Commander's Palace. And most dress up for dinner at Stella, Bayona, Emeril's, Coquette, Clancy's, Patois, Brightsen's et al. Jeans are fine for lunch just about anywhere except Galatoire's and CP. The gentleman should have a light sport coat for dinner at nice places. Some kind of wind breaker is nice to go over a golf shirt in the day in case it's cool. Good luck.
At that time of year, your average high will be around 80, your average low around 60.
