help with new york city pass

We have just purchased this pass. We have almost 3 days to use it. Never been to New York. Looking at what the best use of our time is. We plan on buying a Metro day pass each day to get around. Finding it very difficult to plan as we don't know how close things are to each other. Also for things like the food on foot tour or the sailboat tour do we need to call the company directly to make reservations? Any suggestions are welcome.

Let me suggest that, to start, you get to be very familiar with Gogole Maps - maps.google.com. It'll be invaluable in seeing where things are and giving you both walking and public transportation directions.

mta.info is the official MTA website, and there you can look at both subway and bus maps.

I suspect like many you may regret purchasing the pass for many of the reasons you cite... just don't let the pass dictate where you will go... If you have a prior interest in something fine but don't go to something like the Skyride or Madame Toussauds museum just because you have a free pass. They are a waste of time.

You will also find that many of the admission prices you think you are saving are inflated over reality.

>>just because you have a free pass.<<

bilmin makes a good point - however to clarify - the pass allows you access to many venues - you have PAID good money for the privilege - you are not getting anything for FREE......

Your questions about food and sailboat tours are better directed to the NYPass people.....they must have a website, no?

Hope it works out for you - a big investment,

And Poppa (as usual) makes a great point the admission is far from free and in fact costs you a lot when you calculate the total cost of the pass divided by the actual usage.. Regarding the One day pass $8.25 to figure its worth divide by $2.25 per ride to see if that is worth it.. There is a lot of walking that can be done also so again planning and using something like Google maps as suggested can help you figure out how much you really will use it.. The truth is that in 3 days you probably will not see everything you have on your list of the "must sees" there's just too much and some things like Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building can take a lot longer than you may be planning as do the tours and sailboat rides you have listed.
