Avoiding the Marathon

We are in Bar Harbor on Sunday, October 16th and I hadn't realized the marathon was that day! We might go watch for a bit but any suggestions as to where to go to avoid all the marathon traffic and tourism?

If you Google Bar Harbor ME Marathon and look for the "Race Route" tab, it will show you the routing of the race, and will also show suggested routes for getting around Mount Desert Island to avoid the race route.... You can click on the map to enlarge it for easier reading or printing....

Another possibility to consider would be to spend the day visiting the Schoodic Point section of Acadia National Park.....it's completely off the Island, very scenic, and generally less busy than the main section of the Park.

I don't really think you'll have much of a problem with the marathon in Bar Harbor. It starts in Bar Harbor but finishes in Southwest Harbor so they are barely even here. Also, they don't even run through much of the village area.

Not only does the Marathon just start here, on the edge of town proper, it begins very early and so if you are not up and out early, you won't even know it was in here at all...just come and enjoy Bar Harbor and beautiful Acadia National Park!
