What does "crowded" mean? Snowshoe will have more skiers on any given day, but has about 4 times the lift capacity of Canaan or Timberline, as well as considerably more skiable terrain.

Both are crowded. Snowshoe is much bigger, but there literally is nothing nearby.

In Canaan Valley itself, you have two ski resorts (Canaan Valley and Timberline). You are also an hour away from the Wisp ski Resort in Deep Creek Lake Maryland. Many shops, restaurants, and lodging options in Davis, Canaan, Thomas, Oakland Maryland, and Deep Creek Maryland. Many more dining options and more spread-out. Thus less crowded overall. So... maybe take that into consideration.

Our experience is that sometimes Snowshoe may fill to capacity during the holidays.

Take care to call ahead to be certain that the mountain is open to day skiers.

Snowshoe for sure.....I don't ski any longer but enjoy Snowshoe for it's different layout.
